Obama's Speech
I didn't watch it, I don't care really. It is unbelievable how many people buy into it, though. Neal Boortz has his take on it here. The people that need to read it, won't.
Canadian Human Rights Commission Update
Ezra Levant has responded to the new CHRC complaint against him and he doesn't hold anything back. In fact, it's more of an attack than a response, but he's just speaking truth to (corrupt) power. Here is a small sample from the letter.
I republished the same words as Rev. Boissoin and yet you have recommended that the CHRC not proceed against me.
There is only one reason for this: the CHRC is anti-Christian, and thus you excuse in me what you condemned in Rev. Boissoin.
This is not the first indication of a deep-seated bigotry at the CHRC. You have mercilessly persecuted other Christians in Canada for merely expressing their faith, such as Fr. Alphonse de Valk of Catholic Insight magazine and Ron Gray and the Christian Heritage Party to name just two others.
I note that the CHRC has never once prosecuted a "hate speech" complaint against any non-Christian, though there is plenty of non-Christian bigotry in Canada. No Muslim extremist, no Tamil extremist, no Sikh extremist has ever been prosecuted, though those communities are wracked with internecine hates between radical and moderate camps, that sometimes spill over into violence. But you'd rather pick on a seventy-something Catholic priest for publishing a newsletter.
That's why you're letting me go – I'm not a weak, penniless Christian clergyman.
That's hypocrisy, but it's not surprising coming from an organization so sick that its staff perpetrate racist slurs through their own vile posts on the Internet. It is now public knowledge that staff at the CHRC, like Dean Steacy and Richard Warman, joined neo-Nazi groups and surfed the net in full racist drag. The fact that everyone from the Chief Commissioner on down hasn’t been fired for this scandal is amazing to me.
If they, the CHRC, had even a shred of integrity they would pack it in and disband. Ezra is right on this and he has been right all along - read this column he wrote 14 years ago.

A 'Must Read' Commentary
The 1 and only solution to America's energy problem
As our human right to produce dies, killed by the dead hand of government tyranny, so will die the prosperity and remaining freedom of our country.

The Collective - Resistance is Futile?
Is It Time To Elect A President Who Appreciates Communism?
Senator Obama’s most often noted public enemies are not terrorists, or nations that would do us harm, but American businesses and American business people. As such, he frequently references American oil companies, insurances companies, automobile companies and healthcare companies as being the sources of our nation’s great injustices. He has pledged to fix these companies when he becomes President, and has also vowed to lower the salaries of corporate executives.
There is clearly a connection between Senator Obama’s stated ideals, and the ideals of communism, and the startling similarities between the father and son illustrate this. In both cases, the right of the individual person to achieve, to be successful, to save and to invest is inconsequential. What matters is the collective good of all, and it is okay to penalize the most successful individuals and take away their belongings, so long as everyone else benefits.
And the Obama message, steeped in communist ideals, is resonating. Has America decided that communism isn’t so bad, after all?
They Should Fear Speaking Freely in Canada
Academics fear speaking freely in Canada
A group of U. S. professors launched a campaign this week protesting plans by a prominent political science organization to hold its annual conference in Toronto next year, claiming that Canada's restrictions on certain forms of speech puts controversial academics at risk of being prosecuted.
There is no free speech in Canada. Ask Ezra about that.

Get a Clue Before it's Too Late
The Haves and the Have-Nots (Of a Clue)
America is divided between the haves and the have-nots. In this case, I am referring to those who have a clue as to what's really happening to America, and those that have not a clue. The latter group is certainly not stupid, because as some people have observed, you can't fix stupid. They are just severely uninformed and misinformed.
The have-nots are being taken advantage of to pull off one of the biggest political power grabs in U.S. history at the expense of our nation.
No. It is not the Republican leadership in Congress or the White House. They simply disappointed us when they had a golden opportunity to solve some big problems in a big way during President Bush's first term. Now they are in the minority and are being bashed, stonewalled and whipsawed by the Democrats at every turn.
Yes. It is the Democratic leadership.
Canadian Human Rights Fiasco
Ezra Levant is hit with yet another human rights complaint and he is just going off.
So let me publish the same illegal words again. And let me do it for a different reason.
I’m not publishing these words as part of any “debate”. I am publishing them for the express purpose of promoting contempt – contempt for Rob Wells, and contempt for his gophers at the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
I’m publishing it to promote contempt for Jennifer Lynch, the chief commissioner of the CHRC who presides over an anti-Christian inquisition, and for all of the other commissioners – David Langtry, Robin Baird, Roch Fournier, Sandi Bell and Yvonne Boyer – who have joined forces with the real bigots of this country, people like Rob Wells, and even the corrupt thugs working at the commission who gaily join neo-Nazi groups like Stormfront, with the commissioners’ full approval.
I have contempt for them, and I wish to spread it to all of my fellow Canadians.
Jennifer Lynch: like most bullies, you are a coward who picks on penniless pastors like Rev. Boissoin. Why don't you come and get me?
Go get 'em, tiger.

Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain
This storm just won't leave. It's raining. There is not a lot of wind to speak of, at least not here on the outside edge of this thing. Imagine if this were a cat 4? I don't want to think about it. I didn't even have to put the potted plants in the garage, it never really got too bad. Just a lot of rain. It did clean the trees and bushes of all the spider webs and they look happy - if that's possible. The grass is growing. Even Madison is enjoying it, she puts her head up into the wind and seems to be smelling something very interesting. At least to a dog. I don't mind the rain really, because we aren't getting any kind of flooding from it at all, it's good sleeping weather and it's cooler. Brevard county residents may beg to differ, however. They got over 24 inches of rain so far.

Kite Surfers For Obama
A parable.
James said, "Why doesn't he let go!" I think he has a harness though, he can't let go. Actually, that makes the whole thing even dumber.
Low Blow and His Father, too
Without a doubt, the lowest moment of the night was Obama's smear of Clarence Thomas. He, like Harry Reid, can't simply disagree with Thomas, he has to try to degrade him. On Obama's best day he can't hold a candle to Thomas's intelligence. Obama can barely make it through a press conference and ducks town hall debates with McCain because of his inability to speak in complete sentences when pressed to show his much noted but usually absent brilliance. --Mark R. Levin
The first 10 minutes or so of Tuesday's The Mark Levin Show is must hear radio. Good stuff.
Also read: Like Father, Like Son
"What is more important is to find means by which we can redistribute our economic gains to the benefit of all," said the senior Obama, a Harvard-educated economist. "This is the government's obligation." The "means" he had in mind were confiscatory taxes on a scale that redefines the term "progressive taxation."
"Theoretically," he wrote, "there is nothing that can stop the government from taxing 100% of income so long as the people get benefits from the government commensurate with their income which is taxed."
Therefore, he added, "I do not see why the government cannot tax those who have more and syphon some of these revenues into savings which can be utilized in investment for future development."
As Obama's father saw it, taxes couldn't be high enough, so long as the collective benefited. "Certainly there is no limit to taxation if the benefits derived from public services by society measure up to the cost in taxation which they have to pay," he said. "It is a fallacy to say that there is this limit, and it is a fallacy to rely mainly on individual free enterprise to get the savings."
Speaking of Obama:
However, the son who would lead the U.S. learned from his father's mistakes and keeps his "mouth shut." Obama learned that revealing his real beliefs can jeopardize his quest for the power needed to put his "redistribution" plans into action.

Unfair Advantage
Pastor Rick Warren’s Forum Unfair to Obama
"Of course McCain looked good," the anonymous Obama aide said. "He didn’t have to worry about how his answer would be perceived. He didn't have to work to recall his talking points. He didn't have to think, or even try to look like he was thinking. All he had to do was blurt out what he believed. Clearly, this gave him an unfair advantage, and we think the American people will see this for what it is…another Republican smear tactic."

Calm Before the Storm
It's a beautiful night as we wait for the arrival of tropical storm Fay. You wouldn't know there was a storm bearing down on us without the TV, radio or internet, it really is very calm. I put all the lawn furniture in the garage and got the potted plants ready to put in the garage - I don't want them flying around in the wind. The stores were crowded Sunday and Monday with people preparing for the storm or maybe for the first day of school. Perhaps a little of both. We're getting off easy this time, according to a local meteorologist:
"People will know there's a storm there," said Terry. "Winds will pick up as Fay moves through an area. People will feel it."
I, for one, am glad to hear it.

Not In the Same League
McCain protests NBC coverage
... the campaign is objecting to a statement by NBC's Andrea Mitchell on "Meet the Press" questioning whether McCain might have gotten a heads-up on some of the questions that were asked of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who was the first candidate to be interviewed Saturday night by Pastor Rick Warren at a presidential forum on faith.
Mitchell reported that some "Obama people" were suggesting "that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well prepared."
McCain seemed well prepared because he was well prepared. He knows where he stands on the issues and he's not afraid to state them.
Obama, on the other hand, is trying to walk a tightrope, he doesn't want to say the wrong thing, he wants his answers to please everyone. He does well when his team can put together what he's supposed to say and he can regurgitate it.

Reaching the Tipping Point?
Responding to various new scientific reports questioning the concept of global warming, (New Jersey) Assemblyman Michael Doherty today called on Governor Corzine to hold off on proposing any new regulations associated with the state's Global Warming Response Act and urged the Legislature to repeal that act when it returns to legislative business after Labor Day.
"New Jersey's tax and regulatory climate is already chasing jobs from this state left and right and these new regulations will make matters worse," Doherty said. "Rather than conforming our policies to questionable scientific theories, we should be looking at the concrete economic indicators that show our state's economy is in trouble. And we should be taking steps to help people who are losing jobs and being forced out of their homes by this state's anti-economic growth agenda – not making matters worse."
I wonder what the response will be?

Isn't it interesting how Jerome Corsi has received more scrutiny from the Big Media in the last 24 hours than Barack Obama has received in his entire political career?
Conscience
Conscience is not given to a man to instruct him in the right, but to prompt him to choose the right instead of the wrong when he is instructed as to what is right. It tells a man that he ought to do right, but does not tell him what is right. And if a man has made up his mind that a certain wrong course is the right one, the more he follows his conscience the more hopeless he is as a wrongdoer. --Henry Clay Trumbull

Leaders & Morals
Leaders and Morals --Ron Dart - it starts a little slow but there is some great stuff in there.
|
I have to agree with Alan Keyes is on this issue.
The flaw in the "lesser of evils" arguments being used to promote John McCain and others like him is that even a lesser evil may be evil enough to kill. Such leaders are like the wound that took the life of Romeo's friend Mercutio: "not so deep as a well, or so wide as a church door; but 'tis enough, 'twill serve."
Alan Keyes is not crazy, as it seems some have successfully labeled him, he believes God. Believes Him, not just believes in Him. He seems to be closer to the mindset of our nations founding Fathers than anyone else in political life that I am aware of. What's wrong with that? I wish we had more like him.

Jersey Shore
I'm getting more traffic than I thought from the Barnegat Bay waterspout story. I wish I had seen it. I grew up just north of that area in Toms River and I don't remember ever hearing about something like that before, but I have seen some pretty heavy weather there. I remember fishing on the Toms River and watching rain like a wall of water, like a curtain, coming across the river. I thought it was the coolest thing.
I've also seen water spun up into a foot high waterspout dance across the water - on a clear day. No clue what caused that. I miss the Jersey shore, it was a fun place to grow up. Too bad New Jersey has such a screwed up government. It'll never be the same.
Added 8/15: Here's a great description and photos of the waterspouts from an eyewitness.

Liberty and Justice for All?
The crisis of the republic by Alan Keyes
During the past several decades, the trend in American life and politics has been adverse to just about everything needed to sustain American liberty. In our intellectual life, we have embraced theories and concepts that are simply incompatible with the ideas of human equality and inalienable rights that shaped our institutions of self-government. In the moral realm, we have legitimized attitudes and practices incompatible with the self-reliance and self-discipline that make limited government practicable. We have lived with policies on taxation and our economic life that destroy the rights, self-sufficiency, and initiative of the people. We have thoughtlessly adopted--and allowed our elites to implement--an understanding of political life that destructively erodes the sovereignty of the people.
Forgotten Liberty
America was established by men who had a good understanding of liberty and its source - God. We are so far, today, from understanding this concept. You can't separate God from liberty, it is His gift to us and if we wander from God we leave His gifts behind. We don't appreciate the gifts of those who we don't care about.
Jesus came to liberate us, and wherever His name is named, tyranny is threatened. Though Jesus did not come to oppose government per se, the freedom He brings is a threat to oppressive governments everywhere. --Ray Stedman
And so we have a systematic removal of anything to do with God, to the furthest extent possible. Christianity is banned in many areas of the world and where it is not banned, it is under attack. The further it is pushed out of society the more amenable we are to being ruled by those who would control and oppress us. We, in the United States, appear ready to complete the transition - voluntarily.
Notice still further how He defended the dignity and rights of men against all forms of tyranny and oppression. Listen to His Woes. He began his ministry with "Blessed." He ended it with "Woe." Over against the eight beatitudes are the eight curses. It is an interesting study. But listen to the Woes. They are all hurled against men who tyrannize and oppress; and the whole teaching of Jesus concerning man is that a man has no right to bind himself beneath tyranny and be content. The teaching of Jesus is that there may be a good deal of incipient blasphemy in the popular idea that a man should stay in the position wherein he was born, and be content. The teaching of Jesus is that every man has inherent rights, and any man who comes between the individual and the throne of God is to be dealt with drastically, and the woe that falls from the lips of incarnate purity is pronounced against him. -- G. Campbell Morgan
Alan Keyes understands this. From his article, Endowed by their Creator:
Justice is not the good of the stronger. It is not the survival of the fittest. It is the universal birthright of all humanity, established not by our laws, not by our triumphs, and not even by our prayers, but by the will of the Creator. Though some may pray to Him, and others not, all are entitled to be treated according to His will. Whether they are Christians, Jews, or Muslims, pagans, agnostics, or atheists, all people are His creatures, by nature equal until, by denying His justice to others, they bring His judgment against themselves.
I just posted this the other day but if you haven't heard it, listen to Independence Day.

Wrong and Wronger
Our two Presidential candidates. Alan Keyes makes some good sense in this essay. It's long but was worth the time. I'll have to look into this guy a bit more.
No choice but evil
We live in revolutionary times, by which I mean times when a form of government will either be restored or overthrown – not just in the sense that one group replaces another in power, but in the profound sense that substitutes one premise of government for another. In our case, the premises of aristocratic despotism (the rule of superior ability, force and fear) are replacing those of democratic liberty (moral equality, self-discipline, consent). Unfortunately, the battle between these forces is being waged in an intellectual climate deeply prejudiced against the understanding needed even to comprehend the nature of the battle, much less wage it effectively. This is what makes the prospects for liberty so obscure.

Don't Drink Regina's Beer
Woman kills boyfriend for drinking her beer
"... the two were sitting in Anderson's car outside his home when Williams became angry that he was drinking her beer, authorities said. They began to quarrel, and Williams allegedly pulled a knife she carried for protection and began stabbing Anderson.
Anderson yelled for help, but Williams continued to stab him,
Afterward, Williams got out of the car and called down the street to Anderson's nephew, saying, 'You better come get your uncle—I just killed him,' according to her arrest report.
Groebner said Williams got back in the vehicle and finished drinking her beer."
That's probably her last beer for a while, she should have thought that through.
Oh, and she would have voted for Obama. Him, too. Maybe they still will.
Why Go To School At All?
Fed up with his students' complete inability to spell common English correctly, a British academic has suggested it may be time to accept "variant spellings" as legitimate.
Rather than grammarians getting in a huff about "argument" being spelled "arguement" or "opportunity" as "opertunity," why not accept anything that's phonetically (fonetickly anyone?) correct as long as it can be understood?

Obama Supporters For High Gas Prices
I say drill here, drill now regardless of the effect on the price of gas. Drill because the supply of foreign oil will be cut off one of these days because of war or terrorist attack, or who knows what. It's not a matter of if, but when, and we need to be prepared to supply our own needs in that case or the results will be catastrophic.
There are no alternatives to oil at this time, nothing can replace oil, nothing else is ready. We need to work on that, for sure, but we have to work with what is true, not what we wish were true.
I wish I could hop in my hydrogen powered or electric car to get to work, but it's not there.
Here's an example of what could happen to foreign oil supplies: Oil Companies May 'Panic' on Tanker-Rate Outlook
Oil-tanker rental rates may rise after last week's 46 percent slump spurred owners to slow their vessels, reducing supply and increasing costs for oil producers and refineries who hire the vessels.
Owners are telling captains to sail more slowly, according to three shipbrokers. The last time that happened, in the final months of 2007, rental rates posted the fastest two-month gain in at least 16 years, increasing costs for oil producers seeking to ship supplies to refineries.

Mychal Massie Says ...
Obama's hissing
One of many sayings I remember from my grandmother is, "If the hiss doesn't tell you it's a snake, then the fact that it slithers on its belly in the dirt should." And to that point, if the company Barack Obama has kept (read the dirt he has aligned himself with) doesn't tell you he is a Marxist reparationist, then the words from his mouth, i.e., his hiss, certainly should.
Too many people wouldn't know a Marxist from a Capitalist or anything in between. They don't know how the government works and they don't care. Thank a government school teacher.

Not so Fast
Is this what they told the President? Martian soil may contain detrimental substance
NASA's Phoenix spacecraft has detected the presence of a chemically reactive salt in the Martian soil, a finding that if confirmed could make it less friendly to potential life than once believed.
I thought they were ready to announce they found the "potential for life" on Mars? They even briefed the President "about the discovery of something more 'provocative' than the discovery of water existing on the Martian surface."
I think they need to take a deep breath, calm down, and get their data sorted before they go off on a limb about something before they know for sure.

I'm Curious to See Where This Goes
Is turn-around fair game?
Dean Skoreyko has filed a complaint with the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal against Kenneth Hotz and Showcase TV for their televised stunt of flying a plane past Toronto pulling a giant banner reading "Jesus sucks"
I don't think it will solve anything whether or not it gets thrown out and the best and fairest thing for all Canadians would be to disband the Human Rights Commissions entirely. This lawsuit, if taken up by the commission, can only lead further down a road you don't want to go.
Must Be Budget Cutting Time
The White House is Briefed: Phoenix About to Announce "Potential For Life" on Mars
It would appear that the US President has been briefed by Phoenix scientists about the discovery of something more "provocative" than the discovery of water existing on the Martian surface.
Why? It's certainly interesting and I can understand being excited by new discoveries, whether on our planets surface or out in space, but I fail to see why the President has to be briefed as if it is some kind of national emergency. Maybe they found where they buried Jimmy Hoffa, or Elvis is hiding in an underground bunker on Mars.
Unless they discovered that Mars is actually a Death Star - they need to stop being so dramatic. We are too influenced by Sci-Fi movies these days. It's probably just a microbe - discover it, kill it, dissect it, catalog it and write your peer-reviewed paper.
Am I being too hard on them? OK, you can jump up and down if you want, have a party, I don't care. I just don't get the whole top-secret brief the President crap.

The Horror of Socialism
Book Review: Banished: 'The Forsaken' by Tim Tzouliadis
This is a very sad book, the story of thousands of Americans who, during the Depression, lured by sham Soviet propaganda and pro-Soviet falsehoods spread by the likes of George Bernard Shaw and the corrupt New York Times Moscow correspondent, Walter Duranty, migrated to the USSR in search of jobs and a role in the "building of socialism."
The saddest part is those same falsehoods and propaganda are being taught to and believed by Americans today.
They came to Russia full of enthusiasm, bringing with them baseball and jazz, and eager to acclimatize. Russians found it difficult to believe the Americans' tales of woe when they saw their clothes, luxurious by Russian standards. And the migrants were themselves quite unprepared for the poverty and lawlessness which characterized life under Stalin, and in many if not most cases decided to leave.
On the surface socialism sounds so fair, so right, but it corrupts the soul, it destroys our humanity, it steals our self-worth - it's a lie through and through.
And yet, half this country will vote for it. Half. It's crazy. Perhaps it's popular because it seems to be the shortcut to glory. The easy way live comfortably - why struggle when you can have it handed to you?
One of the devil's suggestions was that the King should take the shortcut to the Kingdom - I will give thee all the kingdoms of the world for one moment's homage, a shortcut to the kingdom, the shortest way! Would it have been the shortest way? Would He have ever gained the kingdom so? Was not the lie of evil insidious in that it suggested as the shortest way the way that never reached the goal at all? That is the method of evil. It confronts the soul with a lie. -- G. Campbell Morgan
Socialism, in any of it's many forms, doesn't work, never did, never will. Man was meant to work for his sustenance, to overcome adversity, to give voluntarily. There is no satisfaction in obtaining that which was not earned, there is only a yearning for more. Taking away the incentive for hard work, for gain, for giving - for living - leaves only poverty. Poverty of the economy and poverty of the soul.
The horror that was Stalinist Russia is still incomprehensible to many Americans, even to many of those who study the USSR professionally. Reading this book is certain to open their eyes.

Appropriately named I say, this from Australia.

Even if there were any evidence beyond the IPCC’s faulty modelling to demonstrate that humans are responsible for global warming - which the last decade’s weather would indicate has stalled or even reversed - it should be noted that Australia is responsible for approximately 1.3 per cent of the total anthropogenic global emissions.
The 18 nations ranked ahead of Australia (the European Union is shown as one) by CO2 emissions account for 89 per cent of the total.
Sydney University's Professor Tom Hubble explained in 2005: "Natural climate change, of similar and greater size as that projected for anthropogenic greenhouse warming, has occurred many times during the last million years and as far as we can tell throughout the history of the planet."
