You Must Hear This Interview

I did not know what Obama has been doing to the National Black Chamber of Commerce, you learn something new everyday.

"Obama wanted the National Black Chamber to dance to his music and have blind allegiance to his crazy programs and agenda, which are totally anti-business. We are a pro-business organization. So we have to stand on the side of business, and the benefit of our members, which are black entrepreneurs."

--Harry Alford, president and CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce

It's Come to This

No bumping allowed in Bumper Cars.
Staff at all three Butlin resorts in Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness are instructed to ban anyone found guilty of bumping into each other in the electric cars equipped with huge bumpers.
I was always told it was God who didn't want us to have any fun but I have since discovered the exact opposite.

Why Can't We Learn From the Mistakes of Others?

Communist refugees understand
But this refugee from Communism also recognizes a dark cloud rolling over her beloved America. She recognizes that cloud because she has seen it before. She has lived under it before. She fears the American Dream is turning into a nightmare.

She sees the breakdown in "anything goes" morality overtaking America. She sees the breakdown in seeking "instant gratification." She sees the breakdown in the increase in "irresponsibility and disrespect for common decency."

"What would have been considered shameful even a decade ago is very normal today," she said. "It seems more and more people want something for nothing. I see laziness and mediocrity being rewarded while achievement and success are being ignored, or worse, punished. Political correctness has been turned into a curse which divides the American people and intimidates those who still hold on to common sense and honorable principles. It is like a dark veil over our eyes, preventing us from seeing clearly and deciding rationally."

Transferring Wealth

From the people to the elite. The Dual Mandate of the Federal Reserve
One problem of many that we have right now is how the Fed views the American currency. They do not perceive their primary role as one of defending the currency. Instead they view the value of the dollar as one input of many in their econometric model. And, as they see it, inputting a weak dollar into the model results in economic growth because it can increase exports from the US. Yes, I am saying the trashing of the dollar is very intentional. It's also a fools game, because ultimately it will kill the average American's pocketbook, make it harder to finance the deficit (who wants to buy the debt of a nation whose currency can't be trusted?), and generally impoverish most while enriching a few.
Emphasis mine. They are siphoning the money right out of your savings account, you still have your money but it is worth less.

If You Can't Be Safe, Be Dangerous

Yes, even in church.

Police: Gunmen Storm Into Church, Rob Everyone Inside
"Nowadays, you can never tell who can target anyone. It is pretty sad when you target members of a church," said Sgt. Dave Morgenstern of the Sanford Police Department.
I could have said it better myself - hopefully that first sentence was misquoted.

I'm sorry, I can't get past this. "Nowadays, you can never tell who can target anyone." Someone, a police officer, actually said that? Why would they print that, why not just use the "It is pretty sad" sentence and leave it at that? Does "Nowadays, you can never tell who can target anyone" make sense to a journalist? Is thinking like this permeating the TSA? Is that why they molest pat down little boys and girls? Hey, that could be their motto. The TSA: Because you can never tell who can target anyone.

But sometimes you can tell who can target someone. Never Don't always say never. If someone comes through your door or window with a mask and a gun, someone is targeting you. Best be prepared. Be dangerous to them.

Report: Only oil shock can stop economy now
The American economy is now strong enough to withstand Middle East turmoil and the Japanese nuclear crisis. Only a big rise in the price of oil could stop it now.
What are the chances of a big rise in the price of oil? Shoot, we go this!

AM Radio is Weird

The only time I ever listen to the radio is when I'm driving. Going to work I usually listen to Mark Levin on a local station but sometimes it is preempted by basketball, in which case I can pick up the Mark Levin show on another station. The reception is not as good but it is acceptable. It's either that or 'Coast to Coast' and I can't listen to that for very long. Maybe a minute.

Tonight was a basketball night so I put the other station on and was hearing tornado warnings. I never knew where the station broadcast from but had assumed it was Tampa or somewhere else in Florida. Guess not. It took a while but they finally said it was Kentucky. Kentucky was not having a good night.

So I can listen from Orlando to a radio station in Kentucky which has better reception than many of the local AM stations. See, weird.

The Solar System
Unlike most models, which are compressed for viewing convenience, the planets here are also shown at their true-to-scale average distances from the Sun. That makes this page rather large - on an ordinary 72 dpi monitor it's just over half a mile wide, making it possibly one of the largest pages on the web.

They Can't Help Themselves

Even as their policies decimate the economy they can't stop adding more strangling regulations.
California is experiencing the fastest rate of companies relocating to out-of-state or out-of-country locations since a specialized tracking system was put into place two years ago. The disturbing trend is reflected in a review of activity from Jan. 1 through April 15 of this year when 70 California company disinvestment events occurred, an average of 4.7 per week — greater than the 3.9 average per week last year.

High Speed Failure

China's high speed rail: FAIL!
The vaunted high-speed rail project pushed by Beijing has collapsed into a morass of embezzlement and failure.
Sounds much like our government.

Government Ruins Everything

It's the opposite of the Midas touch and it's the nature of the beast.

Washington state legislature considering electric-vehicle fee
"Electric vehicles put just as much wear and tear on our roads as gas vehicles," said Democratic state Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, the bill's lead sponsor. "This simply ensures that they contribute their fair share to the upkeep of our roads."

Ah, their fair share. Perhaps that would have been less had the state legislature not set up tax breaks for people to buy those cars in the first place, nor spent money on PR campaigns to do so. Unlike internal-combustion vehicles that require a specific and unique fuel, electric cars can get charged anywhere, which removes the government intervention and taxation on the process — even if it doesn’t actually do anything to reduce pollution, as most electricity gets generated through burning fossil fuels in conditions no more efficient than a modern internal combustion engine
Regarding electric cars not needing "specific and unique fuel," just give them time.

The Perils of Free Will

The problem with evil
The West is belatedly discovering the truth about the love of money being the root of all evil. The arrogant nations of the post-Christian West put their faith in their wealth, only to learn that Mammon is a false and treacherous god. The great irony is that despite the world's rejection of God and its foolish embrace of evil, those who find themselves suffering the promised consequences of their actions will end up blaming God for them. Such are the perils of free will.

Public Enemy #1

Pinatas
People carefully teach their children, from the first time they playfully hit as a baby, that hitting is wrong. They don‘t allow hitting in their family and they don’t spank. But then children are allowed to hit piñatas to the breaking point. Then they get candy; they are rewarded for violent behavior!
Solution: Pinatas shaped like Marxists. Channel aggression where it does the most good.

Planned Parenthood: Killing our future one child at a time

State-funded site: No stigma in abortion
A state-funded sex education Web site that tells teens an abortion is "much easier than it sounds" has drawn fire from outraged pro-lifers who say mariatalks.com is glossing over ugly truths, steering teens toward the controversial procedure and counseling them how to keep mom and dad in the dark.
Sick. Vile. Murder.

H. L. Mencken Quotes

So I guess today is Mencken day because while looking up the last quote to see if it was real I came across others which seemed relevant to our political atmosphere.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
It seems since the advent of talk radio and the internet, they can no longer control the message to the extent they need to - witness the global warming crash and burn - and have pushed the red button, so to speak, on the economy in order to create a crisis which is in no way imaginary.
The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.

The men the American public admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.

Men are the only animals that devote themselves, day in and day out, to making one another unhappy. It is an art like any other. Its virtuosi are called altruists.

An idealist is one who, on noticing that a rose smells better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make better soup.

I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time.

All government, of course, is against liberty.

--H. L. Mencken
The following quote seems to have become popular while George Bush was in office. Hard as it may be to believe, it is even more relevant now. One only hopes we can start an uphill trend.
The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.

The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

--H. L. Mencken

Government Waste: An Oxymoron

$14,000: The Amount a FL Unemployment Office Spent on Superhero Capes
Workforce Central Florida spent more than $14,000 on the red capes as part of its "Cape-A-Bility Challenge" public relations campaign. The campaign featured a cartoon character, "Dr. Evil Unemployment," who needs to be vanquished.

No amount of money the government spends can create sustainable jobs. Every job the government creates is another flea on the dog. The only way to create real, sustainable jobs is for the government to step out of the way. Period. It's a universal law, it cannot be broken, like the law of thermodynamics or gravity.

I don't care if you think it should work, for every flawed idea there is someone who thinks it should work. This president, this congress is playing with peoples lives. People are out here suffering while the leadership plays in it's little sandbox in the beltway deciding what should and should not work based on flawed ideas and ignorance. Meanwhile, real people are losing real jobs, real houses, real dreams and real futures.

The Arrogance of America's Dictator Wannabees is Amazing

The constitution means absolutely nothing to them.

Banning guns by changing definitions
In other words, this report lays the groundwork to impose by regulatory fiat an entirely unconstitutional gun ban more draconian than the Clinton gun ban that expired in 2004, and bypasses Congress and the Constitution to do so. It needs to be stopped now.

This is not just an issue for gun owners. This is an issue of the Obama administration overreaching, and violating the Constitution in the process.. Restricting our rights by regulatory fiat should concern every American.
Guns, free speech, free thought, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion...they're coming for them all, it's just a matter of time if we don't stop this now.

Go Big or Go Home

Land of the Giants
There's an element of truth in that. Bigness is part of what it means to be American. America is Superman and Wonder Woman, the Ziegfeld Follies and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, the Super Bowl, King Kong, Avatar, Surf’n'Turf and Supersized Fries and all-U-can-eat. . . . I love 'em all, but such a land would seem an unlikely candidate for genteel incremental Continental-style decline. When such a nation embarks on the European trajectory of suicide-by-statism, it will not merely be Big Government but Biggest Government. I used to think Obamacare would simply be a disaster on the scale of Canadian health care or Britain’s NHS, but, as the Cornhusker Kickback and the legions of additional IRS agents and the tanning-salon tax became plain, you realize it will be a disaster of an entirely different order. This is Gibbon's Decline And Fall All-U-Can-Eat Super Bowl Christmas Spectacular On Ice.
I really like the way Mark Steyn makes a point. The following is from the comments:
...we need to CONTINUE worshipping at that altar of BIG--

The biggest spending cuts in history...

The biggest tax cuts in history...

The biggest scaling back of government in history...

... followed by the biggest comeback in history.

Decline is a choice, not a fate.

Going Down?

Downhill Only
Incremental decline is easy to get used to. I’m sure a few of my correspondent’s fellow commuters are equally droll about it and a few more get angry, but untold thousands more just shuffle uncomplainingly up and down, scuffing shoes and bumping backpacks. That’s the trick with decline: persuading people to accept it. The Transportation Security Administration, which in a decade of existence has never caught a single terrorist, has managed to persuade freeborn citizens to accept that minor state bureaucrats have the right to fondle your scrotum without probable cause. The TSA is now unionizing, which means that this hideous embodiment of bureaucratized sclerosis will now have its fingers in your gusset until the end of time.

The Party of Destruction

Content Warning Not Strong Enough for This Video of Leftist Freakout at Oregon Tea Party Rally

Country Needs a New Pair of Shoes Government Needs to Pay Off the Unions!

Doubling down on a bad bet
...the United States Postal Service has now gone the Hollywood apocalyptics one better and produced a somewhat subtler image of civilizational ruin. The other day the post office apologized for its new stamp honoring Lady Liberty. Due to an unfortunate error, the stamp shows not the 19th century Statue of Liberty that stands in New York Harbor but the 1990s replica that stands at the New York-New York hotel and casino in Las Vegas.

An ersatz statue of pseudo-liberty standing guard over the world's biggest gambling operation: What better way to round out a week in which the Republicans pretended to pass the most historically historic budget cut in history while the president pretended to come up with a plan to address the debt? All while pretending to wage a war in Libya whose most likely outcome seems to be that the only Arab dictator to sleep soundly in his bed at night during these turbulent times will be doing so under cover of a NATO no-fly zone for the rest of his 75-year term of office. In such a world, the USPS, bless 'em, has come up with a far more plausible emblem of societal devastation than Hollywood's space monsters and climate-change fairies.

After the revelations that the $38.5 billion 2011 budget cut will, in reality, either cut a mere $352 million from the 2011 budget or, in fact, increase it by $3 billion, it might be easier just to build a replica White House, Capitol and Congressional Budget Office at the new Beltway Casino next to Caesar's Palace. Vegas is no longer the world's biggest gambling resort; America is. Barack Obama says we need to "win the future," and one more roll of the dice should do it: A trillion dollars of chips on the stimulus came up empty but let's pile another couple trillion on Obamacare, and "high-speed rail," and "green jobs" and "broadband access... ." And all the while Wayne Newton is singing "Danke Schoen" in Chinese. But don't worry, we're not just throwing our money away. We're playing to a system! The president calls it "investing in the future."

A Post for Tax Day*

*Even though Tax Day is April 18 this year.

From The New Clarion: The First Law of Parasites
It is amusing to see someone get excited about an IRS refund. He dances around and shouts, "I got $2,000! Partyyyyyy!!!"

Hey, you really screwed the government, huh?

Shmuck. The IRS loves to "give" you that money. Every refund represents a happy sheep.

It's the First Law of Parasites: Don't kill the host. That refund check is emotional fuel that keeps the producer working while the government bleeds him drop after drop, month after month...
That government is slicker than Bud Abbott.

By way of Improved Clinch

The Non-Deficit Reducing, Deficit Reduction Bill

Mark Steyn On The Most Historic Budget Cutting Bill In History...That Spends $3 Billion More Than Last Year
...because President Obama always sinks to the occasion. He is a man who has shrunk in office. In a sense, the fraud of his election, a man with no talents other than for self-promotion, is revealed every time he has to rise to the occasion. You start thinking how this man would have, what this man would have said if he had to stand up in the House of Commons, as Winston Churchill did, after the fall of France, for example. He sinks to the occasion. And in this case, we have the usual petty, partisan, un-presidential snippiness, the usual pathetic straw man arguments, and the lamest of lame tropes all about investing in the future and all the rest of it. Government has invested in the future, and as a result, we don’t have one. We need less government investment in the future, because this government has invested like crazy in the future. And the only result of that is that unless you’re planning on getting hit by a logging truck, or coming down with a fatal case of bird flu in the next thirty days, your future is over, because this government spends it.

How the Government Looks Out for You

Starring Bud Abbott as the American government
and Lou Costello as the American people

Duck Season, Wabbit Season

Is it 'Open Season' on a Principled Black Conservative?

It's always open season on a principled black conservative. They've got to keep them on the socialist plantation, don't you know. But it's never open season on Islamofascists.

Tipping the Scales in Favor of Chaos

In his column entitled 'Why Isn't Obama 'Racist' for Ignoring Black Africa?', Larry Elder writes:
Obama refuses to argue that intervening in Libya is part of the fight in the war against Islamofascism and therefore a matter of national security -- the only defensible rationale.

Obama instead justifies the use of the military in Libya -- a country that poses no imminent threat and from which we get virtually no oil -- on the desire to avert a "humanitarian" crisis. If that's the reason, why stop there?
He refuses because Obama is not fighting a war against Islamofascism. Whatever his goal is, it's not fighting Islamofascism. It is equally obvious his intentions are not humanitarian, as Mr. Elder points out.

Government Class Refuses to Face Reality

To Hell in a Gurney
As was revealed yesterday re the sham budget "cuts", the government class's response to its fiscal fraud is to obscure it via political fraud, a sleight of hand that demonstrates utter contempt for the citizenry. If this is the best they can do, they're ensuring that everything is going to get worse. Real worse, real poor, real fast.

The entire Western world is institutionally committed to living beyond its means in perpetuity. The expiry date on "perpetuity" is looming.

The Free Ride Will End One Way or the Other

Ending Medicare, or ending America?
What's about to hit America is not a "shock." It's not an earthquake, it's not a tsunami, it's what Paul Ryan calls "the most predictable crisis in the history of our country." It has one cause: Spending. The spending of the class that laughs at the class that drives to work to maintain President Obama, Sen. Reid, Sen. Baucus, Sen. Harkin and Minority Leader Pelosi's "communications director" in their comforts and complacency.

The Democrats' solution to the problem is to deny there is one.

You'd Think they Were Deliberately Trying Starve Populations Downward

I mean, seriously, we have to use food as fuel?
Each year, an ever larger portion of the world's crops — cassava and corn, sugar and palm oil — is being diverted for biofuels as developed countries pass laws mandating greater use of nonfossil fuels and as emerging powerhouses like China seek new sources of energy to keep their cars and industries running.

But with food prices rising sharply in recent months, many experts are calling on countries to scale back their headlong rush into green fuel development, arguing that the combination of ambitious biofuel targets and mediocre harvests of some crucial crops is contributing to high prices, hunger and political instability.
Who comes up with this stuff? Do they actually sit in a room and figure out ways to make other peoples lives miserable? You would think that was the intention, they are so damn good at it. Everything progressives try makes things worse than before, but of course they come up with more solutions to make things even worse and so on down the road to absolute bloody hell on earth. The world has been there, done that several times and has the t-shirts to prove it. STOP already.

Quote of the Day

"The left never wants to improve people's lot in life. All they want to do is lower the achievers so that there's less of a gap."

--Rush Limbaugh

I Support It

The Right to Offend
When I wrote over the weekend about the trial of Australia's most prominent columnist for expressing his opinions, I did not expect it to be quite so immediately relevant to the United States. But perhaps what's most disturbing about Lindsey Graham's dismal defense of his inclinations to censorship is the lack of even the slightest attempt to underpin his position with any kind of principle. He all but literally wraps himself in the flag, and, once you pry him out of the folds of Old Glory, what you're left with is a member of the governing class far too comfortable with the idea that he and his colleagues should determine the bounds of public discourse.

I'm sick of that. I'm sick of it in Canada, sick of it in Britain, in Australia, in Europe, and I'm now sick of it in America – in part because, as Senator Graham has demonstrated in his fatuous defense, guys like him aren't smart enough to set the rules for what the rest of us are allowed to think.

Hat tip: Vox Popoli

Not So Fast

Wind and wave energies are not renewable after all
He concludes that it is a mistake to assume that energy sources like wind and waves are truly renewable. Build enough wind farms to replace fossil fuels, he says, and we could seriously deplete the energy available in the atmosphere, with consequences as dire as severe climate change.
Oh no! Climate change! I think it's funny that all the so-called "solutions" greenies come up with are as bad or worse than the problems they are trying to solve. Can't we just all agree that climate changes - always has, always will.

Liberals: Putting a Stick into the Spokes of America

Winning Hearts, Minds and Trigger Fingers
We have internalized our enemies' psychoses — that we are the unclean ones.
Mark Steyn has the gift of getting to the point. What should we expect after decades of being taught to hate ourselves by the liberal establishment? What good things about America and Americans do our children learn about in government schools? They learn only that there are no good things about America, they learn that white is never right and they learn that every other culture - no matter how barbaric - is better.

Do people even know what the American culture is anymore?

Learning to Fly

A Healthy Dose of Neglect
Many years ago some writer – it might have been Norman Vincent Peale – said, "Every child needs a good, healthy dose of neglect." I can hear the horrors from parents of small children even as I write this! How could anyone say such a thing?

And yet this thought needs to be explored a bit. Clearly no wise parent will allow a two-year old to play unsupervised in Daddy’s tool shed or to explore his environment with a nail file in a room full of electrical outlets.

But having said that, as children mature they need to be cut loose from Mom & Dad’s all-seeing eyes, allowing them to make mistakes or better yet develop problem-solving skills with their playmates. If Mom and Dad are there to ride to the rescue every time a little difficulty arises, the child will remain a child even into adulthood. Dependency will be a habit and adulthood delayed.
The same can be said for government, people need to be left alone to solve their problems or dependency will be a habit and we will have a nation of children.

Oops.

He goes on:
Maybe that's what Jesus meant when he told his disciples, "It is expedient for you that I go away” (John 16:7), and, “He that believes in me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto the Father" (John 14:12).

Maybe we can paraphrase it as: "It's best I leave. I'll send you some help, but you’ll have to learn how to step out of your comfort zones."

Girls Just Wanna Have Guns

Those Who Control the Guns Control the People

Stop ATF's Anti-Gun Zealots
For 30 years, Chicago banned handguns. The crime rate skyrocketed. Murders soared. Gangs blossomed. Desperate city officials even considered calling the National Guard to combat the out-of-control violence that all the "community organizing" in the world couldn't curb. The Supreme Court struck down Chicago's individual firearms ownership prohibition last year, but the same anti-gun zealots who put Windy City citizens' lives at risk remain in power.

And now one of them may soon be in charge of the scandal-plagued Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

NRA's Chris Cox summed up the nomination bluntly: "You might as well put an arsonist in charge of the fire department."
