It was time. "Let's run!" he yelled.

Their plan had been for Shin to stay in the lead until they got clear of the fence, but he slipped and fell to his knees on the icy patrol trail.

Park was first to the fence. Falling to his knees, he shoved his arms, head and shoulders between the two lowest strands of wire. Seconds later, Shin saw sparks and smelled burning flesh.

Most electric fences built for security purposes repel trespassers with a painful but exceedingly brief pulse of current. Lethal electric fences, however, use a continuous current that can make a person lock on to the wire as voltage causes involuntary muscle contractions, paralysis and death.

Before Shin could get to his feet, Park had stopped moving. The weight of his body pulled down the bottom strand of wire, pinning it against the snowy ground and creating a small gap in the fence. Shin crawled over his friend's body, using it as a kind of insulating pad. As he squirmed through the fence, Shin could feel the current.

Shin was nearly through the fence when his lower legs slipped off Park's torso and came into direct contact, through the two pairs of pants he was wearing, with the bottom strand. Voltage from the wire caused severe burns from his ankles to his knees. But it would be a couple of hours before Shin noticed how badly he had been injured.

When he cleared the fence, he had no idea where to go. The only direction he could comprehend was down. He ran for about two hours, always heading downhill, until he entered a mountain valley. There were barns and scattered houses. He heard no alarms, no gunfire, no shouting. As far as he could tell, no one was chasing him.

As the adrenaline of flight began to ebb, Shin noticed that the legs of his pants were sticky. He rolled them up and saw blood oozing out of his legs. It was very cold, well below 10 degrees Fahrenheit. He had no coat.

Park had not told him where he might find China.

No one is trying to escape from the United States, at least not yet. No one is risking death by drowning or shark attack to leave these shores. No one is hiding under car seats, in trunks, or suffocating in the back of trucks trying to cross the border out of the United States. No one is giving their life savings to someone, knowing they will be raped and possibly murdered trying to get to the United States. No one is doing any of these things to get out, but there are plenty of people doing these things and more to get in. Doesn't that tell you something?

Why the hell are you trying to make the United States just like the countries that these people are DYING to escape? Why are you OK with that? Because if you are not - at least - helping to vote these communists* out of office you are helping them. No one is going to take care of you and give you everything you want for free. They can tell you that until they're blue in the face - it isn't true. I know it, they know it, and you know it in your heart. You will give up all your freedoms, you will give up all your comforts, and you will give up everything you have and you will be poor and powerless and miserable. That's it. That's what YOU get. THEY get all the money and power and THEY don't care one wit about YOU. You are not one of them and you never will be, they are using you and when they are done they will be laughing at you. The world has already been through this ruse, this is just another rerun. The history of communism is written in the blood of countless millions of it's citizens. Read it.

The same people who are voting for all this reject the God of the Bible. Don't dare post the Ten Commandments in a school or courtroom. But have you ever read those commandments? Love God, take a day off every week (the Sabbath), honor you mother and father, don't murder, don't steal, don't lie, don't covet.

Oh, the oppression! Oh, no, give us communism, please. It's much better. Derp!

The mob mentality surrounding the killing of Trayvon Martin is out of hand. I have heard many TV and radio personalities talk about it, newspapers, interviews with the "man on the street." It's all very confusing and only one thing is perfectly clear - none of these people know what they are talking about, they do not know what transpired between those two people and we would all be a lot better off if we would let the authorities handle it. It seems more and more like both individuals made mistakes that night, both did something they shouldn't have done and if either one would have acted differently the outcome wouldn't have been a death. I do not mean to insinuate that Trayvon got what he deserved at all, just that if had just kept walking home he might still be alive. Or if Zimmerman would have not followed Trayvon, he might still be alive. But we don't know.

So what will the mob do if the new investigator finds no reason to arrest Zimmerman? What if he goes to trial but is found innocent? Will the mobs be out rioting then? It is irresponsible to hold a trial by media. Let the justice system work. You know what? Innocent people are killed everyday (with no outrage, BTW), sometimes the killer is not found, sometimes they get off. I don't like it and neither do you but there is no way for a human justice system to be 100 percent without fault. Lynch mobs are always wrong, however.

It's not a lynch mob? Are you sure? What's the difference if you hang someone yourself or you force someone else to do it?

As someone who works in the tourist industry I can tell you that there is a certain percentage of the population who have absolutely no sense of direction. It's gotten worse since GPS. I have talked to people who could not drive straight down a road 5 miles without plugging it into the GPS.

Computers have become our external hard drive in the sky, replacing our need to think or remember - just Google it. And now we can carry that brain around with us everywhere we go and it looks up almost anything we can imagine for us. Instantly. It's amazing, really. But, I think it may be a good idea to think about developing a basic skill set and knowledge base that will help us get through when the power goes out for extended periods or we otherwise lose touch with our external brain. Or the GPS tells us to drive into the bay.

"See, I always believed that when you run for president of the United States, it should be illegal to read off a teleprompter," Santorum said at a Gulfport restaurant. "Because all you're doing is reading someone else's words to people."

While I don't disagree with his reason why...

...Shouldn't he be for less stupid laws, not more? He is running as a conservative, isn't he? Will he create the Teleprompter Regulatory Agency if elected? It's enough to make you scream sometimes.

I hate that the only reason Republicans give us to vote for them is that they are not communist. "Vote for me, I'm not a Commie!"

Not that that's not a good reason. I think it should be illegal to be a communist and hold office in our government. But that's just me - apparently.

Energy Secretary Chu Admits Administration OK with High Gas Prices

President Barack Obama's Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu uttered the kind of Washington gaffe that consists of telling the truth when inconvenient. According to Politico, Chu admitted to a House committee that the administration is not interested in lowering gas prices.

Chu, along with the Obama administration, regards the spike in gas prices as a feature rather than a bug. High gas prices provide an incentive for alternate energy technology, a priority for the White House, and a decrease in reliance on oil for energy.

This is old news to those who are paying attention, still, many are not.
