He's a Magic Man

Psychiatrist: Obama corrupting America with socialism

"We have a desperate population, and it's feeling even more desperate than usual," Dr. Lyle Rossiter told WND. "People are really quite frightened. They're looking for magic, and they think they are going to find it in this man."

Any god but God.

Muslim prayer-in-school controversy might be solved

Wayne School board Attorney Nathanya Simon said "We recognize that the federal guidelines say we must permit the exercise of religion in school. However, it does have a limitation.''

She said the district believed that elementary students must always be supervised.

"Right from the beginning, we were never going to ban it,'' Simon said. "It was just a matter of how we were going to implement it and make it available.'"

What would they do if Christian kids wanted to get together to pray in school?

We already know, don't we? They would bend over backwards to accomodate them. Oops, no, that's not it. They would threaten them with suspension if they did not cease and desist.

Train Horn

Created by Train Horn

I tried this before I left to pick up the kids from school and I didn't hear anything. I tried it a few times, turned up the volume, put the speaker to my ear - nothing. After picking up the kids I tried it again, forgetting that they should hear it - I wasn't even thinking about that. Joshua was on the sofa and James was in the kitchen while I'm desperately trying to hear something. I hear James saying, "What's that noise?" The third time he said it I realized what it was, and Joshua started complaining about it, too. He started holding his ears and said, "I'm out of here." Joshua can't stand the noise and James wants to play it over and over.

On a side note, I hate those train horns, except on trains. I like them on trains. There are some cars that have them in my town and they are so annoying. They are as bad as those thumping bass systems some people put in cars. They think, "Hey, Look at me, I'm cool!" while every one else hates them and thinks they're idiots and hopes their car explodes.

The Most "Romantic" Places in Tampa*

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says they arrested a Brooksville woman for giving an unwanted hug.

Deputies say they responded to the home of Lori Smith and Kevin Connelly shortly after midnight Monday. When they got there, deputies say Lori told them she tried to hug Kevin twice, however he pushed her away because he did not wish to be hugged. Kevin claims Lori grabbed him several times, so he threw her on the bed to get away from her.

Deputies say due to the fact Kevin did not wish to be touched and Lori continued to hug him, she was taken into custody for one count of Domestic Battery.

The Inexplicable Division Between I.Q. and Wisdom

Raking liberals over the coals by Burt Prelutsky

In trying to see an upside to the current financial crisis, I'm afraid the best I could come up with is that a lot of parents can no longer afford to blow their hard-earned dollars financing their children's indoctrination by an army of left-wing professors. Frankly, it's always perplexed me when well-meaning adults blithely send their impressionable kids off to be force-fed four years of lies, such as the perils of global warming; the notion that America's hog farmers, according to Robert Kennedy Jr., being a far greater threat to the nation than Osama bin Laden and his terrorism network; that all countries are equally good, except, of course, America and Israel; and that all religions deserve equal respect, except, of course, for Christianity and Judaism.

He ends with this quote from Teddy Roosevelt:

"Educate a man in mind and not in morals and you educate a menace to society."

Government Knows Best?

Brazilian government insane - apparently

The Brazilian government has determined that 99% of its citizens are "homophobic," and therefore must be reeducated, according to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo.

Will they send them to reeducation camps?

"What is surprising is how a population that is 99% against homosexuality is accepting passively that its 100% pro-homosexuality government is lifting homosexual acts to the level of inviolable sacredness," wrote Brazilian pro-family activist Julio Severo on his blog, Last Days Watchman, "and at the same time it is lowering 99% of Brazilians to the class of 'ignorant mob' that should be forcefully condemned to state policies of reeducation."

Our Founding Fathers were light years ahead of the so-called intellectual elite of today. Government is not your friend. Government cannot save us. Do not feed the beast.

Slightly Historical

Never retell anything from the past for fear of insulting someone

So the proposed re-enactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in Quebec has been scrapped.

Even though it would have been entirely accurate, if appallingly over-sensitive to the losers, it told a truth that was not pleasant to militant separatists. And nobody wants to in any way offend anybody in modern Canada.

Welcome to the wonderful world of historical revisionism.

Very good article, goes for America, too.

Degrees of Accommodation

From Islamabad to Bradford by Mark Steyn

Thirty years ago, in the Obama golden age, a British documentary-maker was so horrified by the “honor killing” of a teenage member of the House of Saud at the behest of her father, the king’s brother, that he made a famous TV film about it, Death Of A Princess. The furious Saudis threatened a trade boycott with Britain over this unwanted exposure. Today, we have honor killings not just in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, but in Germany, Scandinavia, Britain, Toronto, Dallas, and Buffalo. And they barely raise an eyebrow.

Government Gone wild

Enemies of the Constitution

Maybe it's time for us to lock up the enemies of the Constitution.

This thought occurs to me because we have so many people running around Washington, and elsewhere, including elected officials, who are openly and actively subverting the very foundation of our country's liberties.

You'll get no quarrel from me, I've thought that for some time now. The problem is we've waited too long, the enemies of the Constitution are in charge now. They are busy ripping it apart as we speak. So how do you stop it? The people have elected this President and we're going to be on this ride till the end. Do what we must to fight it, don't give up, don't let them have an easy time of it, but they are at the controls. They control the Universities, the schools, most of the media, all three branches of the government and now the floodgates of immigration to solidify their position by overrunning the country with people who have no understanding of or respect for the Constitution. Just sayin.

Got a Job?

You might not after this passes.

The decision, which most likely would play out in stages over a period of months, would have a profound impact on transportation, manufacturing costs and how utilities generate power.

All for an delusional progressive agenda.

If the environmental agency determines that carbon dioxide is a dangerous pollutant to be regulated under the Clean Air Act, it would set off one of the most extensive regulatory rule makings in history.

You won't be allowed to exhale, in fact, no animal will be allowed to live. On a positive note, volcanoes will be illegal so we won't have to worry about them anymore.

Feel Good Legislation

I saw this in an email and wanted to pass it along. I could see myself in the same situation, you have to be very careful what you vote for.

Often times, even I feel helpless when I think of the anti-gun machine's power and drive. Sympathy is a VERY powerful tool, and it is incredibly easy to use sympathy to pass, what I like to call, "feel good legislation".

Let me explain "feel good legislation" a bit. The other day I accompanied a friend to a speech given about the animal production industry. The speaker sat on a University animal science board (or something), and he was speaking to Animal Science majors about the challenges they face in their industry.

Let me say this- I am not a farmer, but I love a juicy steak. I like bacon, eggs, milk- basically, I am not a vegetarian. Granted, I have no problem if you chose that way of life (as long as you respect my own decisions, of course).

Anyway, I'm not a farmer, but I like to eat animals, and I recognize that Milk and Eggs don't come from the grocery store- they come from hard working individuals who see the opportunity they have in meeting a demand.

I also believe we have a responsibility and duty to be respectful in the way we harvest these animals- to me, that is just common sense.

Well, during the speech, the speaker talked about how one regulation the 'opposition' is trying to pass is a law that would make it so that a calf couldn't be separated from its mother until a five or six weeks after birth.

It sounded reasonable enough to me, but when all of the students (most of whom you could tell were farmers) gasped, I knew it must be bad.

I later talked to my friend about this comment, and he explained to me how those weeks are the most fruitful period in a cow's milk production, and that to pass such a law would literally cripple the dairy industry.

Can you see why this would scare me? I can TOTALLY picture myself sitting in a voting booth, getting to a proposal that was snuck in that said "Proposition 2 would require farmers to separate cows from their offspring only after five weeks", and thinking to myself, "Sure, that makes sense to me!".

THIS is 'feel good' legislation.

Everyone wants to FEEL like they are doing their part, as long as it doesn't involve any work.

THAT is how, I am pretty sure, most anti-gun bills are passed. When someone who has never been around guns sits in a voting booth and reads:

"Proposal 2 would make it harder for people to commit mass murders by limiting the magazine capacity on assault weapons to ten rounds,"

....who WOULDN'T vote for that?? If you don't know that the phrase "Assault Weapon" is hogwash and that an empty10 round magazine can be replaced with a full one in about .2 seconds, you have NO way of detecting the scentless B.S. in that wording.

See what I mean? If you aren't directly involved in an industry, it can be VERY easy to be "sympathized" by FEEL GOOD legislation.

The Coolest President Evah!

I have a friend who keeps saying that. There is no changing his mind, I don't even try. I don't even bring up the subject, but "he's just so cool!" There are a lot of people like that. A lot. I hope it is not too late when they realize the truth. The writer of the following articles - Ali Sina - has got Obama's number. For sure.

Understanding Obama

There are other disturbing similarities. Like Hitler and Khomeini, Obama also likes to create a cult of personality around himself. As stated above, when a large number of a population is discontent, a charismatic leader can seize the opportunity and present himself as the agent of change. He can create a cult of Personality by associating himself with the idea of change. He convinces everyone that things are terrible and a drastic change is needed. He then casts himself as the only person who can deliver this revolutionary transformation that everyone is waiting for. He portrays himself as a benevolent guide; the only one who cares about people and their needs and can pull them out of their alleged misery. In reality, they have no clue about how to address the problem - have no experience, no track record. But they are convincing because they are self assured.

These revolutionary leaders need foes. They exaggerate the problems. They make everything look gloomy. They lie, cheat and slander their opponents while casting themselves as the saviors of the nation. Hitler chose the Jews to blame for everything that was wrong in Germany. Khomeini made the Shah and his westernization plans his scapegoats. Obama has chosen President George W. Bush to smear. He can rally people around himself, as long as he can instill in them the dislike of Bush and equate his rival, McCain to him. Sigmund Freud wrote, "It is always possible to bind together a considerable number of people in love, so long as there are other people left over to receive the manifestations of their aggressiveness" (Civilization and Its Discontents).

A cult of personality is excessive adulation, admiration and exaltation of a charismatic leader, often with unproven merits or achievements. It is similar to hero worship except that it is created specifically for political leaders.

What Will The Future Bring Under Obama?

The above are nine of the world's most famous narcissists (Jim Jones, Charles Manson, Joseph Kony, Mao Ze Dong, Barak Hussein Obama, David Koresh, Adoph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Saddam Hussein.) All these men were adored by those who fell under their spell and believed in them. Obama is still an incognito. The rest were demented. Their power came from their believers. The devastation was caused by their believers. Their dark souls were hidden behind their charismatic masks. They raised hopes, but brought death. The one in the center has the potential to cause more harm than all of them combined, because he would be the most powerful man on Earth with access to the deadliest weapons ever invented and because the number of people who believe in him exceed the votaries of the rest. Today, Obama is the most popular man on the planet. His followers lie, cheat and break the law for him. Good people will do evil things under the spell of narcissists with clear conscience. That is the surreal power that narcissists have - the power to deceive.

Fasten your seatbelts and keep your head and arms inside the car at all times.

It All Comes Down to Morality in the End

Let's put Congress in charge of supermarkets! by Walter E. Williams

This is an excellent commentary that explains the driving force behind our economy in terms you can understand.

The idea that even the brightest person or group of bright people, much less the U.S. Congress, can wisely manage an economy has to be the height of arrogance and conceit. Why? It is impossible for anyone to possess the knowledge that would be necessary for such an undertaking. At the risk of boring you, let's go through a small example that proves such knowledge is impossible.

I would change one thing, I wouldn't use the term greed where he did. Greed is self-destructive and has bad connotations. It's not so much greed as providing for yourself and family, something that is completely necessary. It's healthy, it's right. It's what we all must do to live. It's what God intended. It's how we're wired and it builds us up and it builds up society.

That's not to say there isn't greed out there, there certainly is, and plenty of laziness, too. But that's not what works best. And that's why our economy is in so much trouble. Too much greed and laziness.

Blind Leaders of the Blind

D.C.'s Animal Farm

The saddest thing about "Animal Farm" is that as you read you realize the animals have no idea what's going on. We see the corruption, deception and tyranny unfold, page by page, but they have no idea things are actually worse under the pigs than they were under Farmer Jones. As I read the book, I wanted to shout out: "Don't you realize what you're doing? Don't you realize what is going on?" But the animals didn't hear me and neither do the American people. They have no idea what they have done. They have no idea what they have given up.

How do you resolve the occasional genius of mankind with the shear stupidity that passes for wisdom most times?

Rules Can’t Make Decisions

So Many Laws, So Little Time

America indeed is in a crisis—a crisis of individual freedom. We have lost the idea, at every level of public life, that people can grab hold of a problem and fix it. We have become a culture of rule followers, driven to frame every solution in terms of existing law or possible legal risk. Gradually, without noticing when it happened, we’ve lost our ability to make the choices needed to run a society.

Great article, and spot on, read it.

Christian Gun Owner Website

The Christian Gun Owner

Welcome to the Christian Gun Owner web site. There is a huge American community of Christians who know that this country was founded on the principles of the Bible and under the guiding hand of an almighty God. That community believes that the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, including the second amendment, were a result of that guidance. This site is dedicated to the millions of Christian patriots who enjoy the shooting sports of all kinds and believe in and practice responsibility for their and their family's safety and protection. "Christian" here means just that. Nothing more or less. The real kind, not the tv kind. Not the tribal warlike kind. Just believers in Christ that express that belief by living their everyday lives attempting to do their best to follow Christ, but acknowledge their human nature and occasional failures. The Christian gun owner that believes he/she is to be a servant to humanity but not a doormat to those who refuse to live by the rules of reasonable human behavior.

Looks pretty good, just found it today.

Gun Control: Making the World a More Dangerous Place

News from the weekend illustrates futility of gun control schemes

On Friday, a power outage near Cincinnati facilitated a burglary at Arcade Antiques & Guns where thieves stole $19,000 worth of firearms. This highlights, once again, that the bad guys don't get their guns through legal means and that one gun a month laws, closing nonexistant gun show "loopholes", fingerprinting, waiting periods, ballistic "fingerprinting", etc. don't stop them from obtaining guns. Similarly, police broke up a burglary ring in Parma Heights where crooks were allegedly targeting guns in homes.

Now, some will argue that if all guns were banned and gun shop weren't in business that this wouldn't happen. Of course, that's like trying to stop drunk driving accidents by banning cars. Not to mention the fact that drugs are illegal, yet criminals have easy access.

But wait, there's more. Good article.

AAAS: 'One hundred billion trillion' planets where alien life could flourish

One hundred billion trillion. That's even more than the spending package congress just passed.

Alan Boss, of the Carnegie Institution in Washington DC, said there could be as many Earths as there are stars in the universe - one hundred billion trillion.

Because of this, he believes it is "inevitable" that life must have flourished elsewhere over the billions of years the universe has existed.

"If you have a habitable world and let it evolve for a few billion years then inevitably some sort of life will form on it," said Dr Boss.

"It is sort of running an experiment in your refrigerator - turn it off and something will grow in there.

"It would be impossible to stop life growing on these habitable planets."

Is this guy a scientist? How can you compare life forming on a planet somewhere in the universe to an unplugged refrigerator? Life already exists in and around the fridge so it's not such a big deal to find it growing and multiplying in the now warmer microclimate of the warm fridge. That's vastly different than life forming in the universe when none had yet existed. Slightly different circumstances those.

Life from non-life. That's about as big a jump as the universe exploding out of nothing. It's not a gap we can bridge.

I'm not saying it is impossible for there to be life out there of some sort or another - I don't know, and neither do they - but it didn't just spontaneously form on it's own. Give the Creator His due.

Nation Rebuilding On a Foundation of Lies

The Madoff Bill by Dennis Prager

I write this column without any illusion that it will reverse Americas current movement toward socialism. Rather I am writing it primarily so that future generations will not be able to say that the radical and destructive nature of the Obama/Democratic Partys so-called stimulus plan was unknown at the time. I am writing this so that my children will know that their father vigorously opposed it and why.

Our government is becoming the enemy of it's citizens, not just in theory but in fact.

Obama lied, democracy died

Transparency

Kick these RINOs out of the zoo

President Obama wasn't kidding. This is going to be a "transparent" government alright – we're being robbed, and the crooks aren't even bothering to use masks. Making things more comical last week was this: While the stimulus debate was ongoing, the people who are mishandling trillions in taxpayer dollars – Congress – were standing in judgment of how corporate CEOs are mishandling billions in taxpayer dollars. It was like watching the captain of the Exxon Valdez yell at his kid for spilling a can on paint on the lawn.

Surreal happenings abound in Washington, D.C., but the bottom line is that the stimulus passed because of three Republicans who probably didn't have time to even read the bill. It's not that they're slow readers – nobody had time to read the bill. We just pawned off future generations based on a bill Congress didn't read. This is criminal.

The day I'll consider it completely acceptable for Congress to vote on a bill it didn't read is the day "I didn't have time to read all of it" is an acceptable excuse for my incorrect tax returns – the latter of which these days culminates either in a prison sentence, or a post in Obama's cabinet, depending upon how "plugged in" you are to the political system.

Ship of Fools

So far, it's been Obamateur Hour by Mark Steyn

America has a choice: It can reacquaint itself with socioeconomic reality. Or it can buckle its mandatory seat belt for the same decline most of the rest of the West embraced a couple of generations back. In 1897, troops from the greatest empire the world had ever seen marched down London's Mall for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Seventy years later, Britain had government health care, a government-owned car industry, massive government housing, and it was a shriveled high-unemployment socialist basket-case living off the dwindling cultural capital of its glorious past. In 1945, America emerged from the Second World War as the preeminent power on Earth. Seventy years later….

Let's not go there.

Portraying Muslims in a More Positive Light

Prominent Orchard Park man charged with beheading his wife

  • "Orchard Park police are investigating a particularly gruesome killing, the beheading of a woman, after her husband -- an influential member of the local Muslim community -- reported her death to police Thursday."

  • "Muzzammil Hassan told police that his wife was at his business, Bridges TV, on Thorn Avenue in the village. Officers went to that location and discovered her body.

Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light."
    --Oops.

  • "She had an order of protection that had him out of the home as of Friday the 6th [of February],"

How's that order of protection working out for you? Never trust the government - get a gun, learn how to use it. The police cannot protect you, they are not personal body guards, they won't be there when you are attacked. They come after the attack, take pictures and fill out the paperwork. If they can maybe they will catch the criminal.

What Could Go Wrong?

Democratic Senator Predicts None of His Colleagues 'Will Have the Chance' to Read Final Stimulus Bill Before Vote

"The Democrats have thrown this at us very last-minute," said Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.). "That's why the rule of thumb in the United States Congress should be, 'When in doubt, vote no,' because the devil is in the details and that's why this stimulus is not worthy of support."

Rep. John Boozman (R-Ark.) shared that sentiment. "The American public expects for us to get in and know what we're voting on," Boozman said. "But there are very few members from Congress that are going to have time to actually read this thing."

"This is not light reading," Boozman added. "It’s difficult reading, it involves policy and things."

It's not like it's big deal or anything.

Seriously, these people shouldn't be running our government, they should be in gitmo.

Why Civilizations Die

City Cracks Down On Counterfeit Trash Bags

When the Massachusetts city unveiled its new $2 purple trash bags that all residents must use when disposing of household waste, the word 'official' was deliberately spelled 'offcial.'

What? You have to use an official purple trash bag to throw out your trash? Are they insane? Is there a stronger word than insane? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think there would be mandated, overpriced ($2.00?!) trash bags. This is what happens just before a civilization dies off.

The Incas tried this, I'm pretty sure.

Obama's Birth Certificate Secret Unlocked!

I couldn't understand why Obama would spend so much money in the court system trying to keep his birth certificate secret if he was really born in Hawaii. I mean, what's the big deal. Then I read this:

Kim Jong-Il's birthday 'improves North Korean weather'
“Those who witnessed the opening of willow catkins earlier than the previous years and the unprecedented nocturnal view said excitedly that even the nature and the sky unfolded such mysterious ecstasy in celebration of the birthday of leader Kim Jong-Il,” the agency noted.

Kim Jong-Il, like his father before him, is the subject of an officially inspired personality cult which ascribes almost supernatural powers to him.
--much like Obama!

His official biography is steeped in myths, such as the rainbows that appeared over Mount Paektu, his official birthplace, when he was born, or his 11 holes-in-one in a single round of golf.

Bingo! Obama wants to be like Kim Jong-Il. Lights will shine down, the halo thingys, his birthplace, his brilliance - it all fits!

The Pernicious Political Virus

Barry and Marx --Erik Rush

  • Have any but a few of us caught on that trashing a nation's economy might be a Marxist's key objective in edging that nation toward totalitarian communism?

  • Barack Hussein Obama is a Marxist. In the context of his career, he has always been a Marxist. The alarm amongst those people who only now think he is taking things too far or in the wrong direction would be amusing were circumstances not so grave. The only surprise on this end is that Obama has initiated the wholesale thievery and wanton curtailment of our liberties this soon.

It isn't like America wasn't warned.

  • He was brought up with Marxists.

  • He studied Marxist "theology" for 20 years.

  • He deliberately sought Marxists to fraternize with throughout college – by his own admission.

  • He worked with Marxists and anti-American elements during his tenure in Chicago and Illinois state politics – which counts as very recently.

If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. In this case that duck is a deadly political virus.

All we want is, you know, some balance on the airwaves, that's all. You know, we're not going to take any of the conservative voices off the airwaves, but just make sure that there are a few progressives and liberals out there, right?"

Sure, right. You can't force someone to listen to something they don't want to listen to. That would be torture and I thought the United States was above that. You mean to tell me we can't torture terrorists but you want to torture American citizens? That's sick and twisted.

Crazy Little Thing Called Property Rights

Google Earth Leads Man to 'Buried Treasure'

Using Google Earth, a Los Angeles-based musician named Nathan Smith thinks he's found a lost treasure ship that sank somewhere north of Corpus Christi during a hurricane in 1822.

OK, so he thinks he found treasure, but the land is owned by someone.

But the owners of the land won't let him dig ...

I wouldn't let them did on my land either, and that's his right. He owns the land. If you want to dig on the land offer to buy it or lease it or otherwise make a deal and if the answer is no - go away.

— unless a court rules that the muddy creek is indeed "navigable waters," in which case the federal government decides.

But no, this guy wants to use the federal government to steal the land, and the government seems all too ready to lend a hand - a ruling is set next month. I'm guessing he gets his way considering the definition of navigable waters has been stretched beyond limits by environmentalists. We'll see. Doesn't matter, if one judge doesn't agree he'll just go to another.

Angry survivors blame council 'green' policy

  • ANGRY residents last night accused local authorities of contributing to the bushfire toll by failing to let residents chop down trees and clear up bushland that posed a fire risk.

  • "We wanted trees cut down on the side of the road … and you can't even cut the grass for God's sake."

Random Thoughts...

from Thomas Sowell

  • "One of the most important skills for political success is the ability to make confident assertions of absurdities or lies."

  • "The adage "follow the money" will be hard to apply in the current administration, when there is so much money going in all directions that it is doubtful whether anybody can follow it."

  • "There are too many people, especially among the intelligentsia, who will never appreciate the things that have made this country great until after those things have been destroyed-- with their help. Then, of course, it will be too late."

  • "Democrats could sell refrigerators to Eskimos before Republicans could sell them blankets." --They've done the equivalent selling this "stimulus"

  • "Human beings are going to make mistakes, whether in the market or in the government. The difference is that survival in the market requires recognizing mistakes and changing course before you go bankrupt. But survival in politics requires denying mistakes and sticking with the policies you advocated, while blaming others for the bad results."

  • More frightening to me than any policy or politician is the ease with which the public is played for fools with words. The latest example is the "Employee Freedom of Choice Act," a bill that will do away with secret ballot elections among workers voting on whether to be represented by a union. It is an open invitation to intimidation-- which is to say, loss of freedom of choice." --Another example: The "Fairness Doctrine"

Mark Levin has nailed it as far as I'm concerned. This is a must hear show, this is not the time to sit back and ignore the reality of what is going on in our government. The day is coming when you will not have any recourse in the courts - they will own them - there will be no checks and balances in our government - it will be their way or the highway. Wake up America, your waning freedoms will soon be gone, it will be too late to get them back. The American dream will be to get the next hand-out from the imperial government and hoping the line is not too long. The government is NOT your mother - get over it. Mark Levin Show: 2/10/09

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have." --President Gerald Ford

Best Explanation I've Seen As to Why the Stimulus Can't Work

Walter E. Williams: The stimulus plan fails the swimming pool test

  • "Any so-called stimulus program is a ruse. The government can increase its spending only by reducing private spending equivalently. Whether government finances its added spending by increasing taxes, by borrowing or by inflating the currency, the added spending will be offset by reduced private spending. Furthermore, private spending is generally more efficient than the government spending that would replace it because people act more carefully when they spend their own money than when they spend other people's money." --Richard Wagner

A short translation of Wagner's comment is: There is no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy.

  • In stimulus package language, if Congress taxes to hand out money, one person is stimulated at the expense of another, who pays the tax and is unstimulated. A visual representation of the stimulus package is: Imagine you see a person at work taking buckets of water from the deep end of a swimming pool and dumping them into the shallow end in an attempt to make it deeper. You would deem him stupid. That scenario is equivalent to what Congress and the new President proposes for the economy.

The So-Called "Stimulus" That Isn't

Our Deadly Debt: How "Stimulus" Prolongs Pain

And let us also remember how Japan's and Europe's soft-love economic policies served them so ill in the last 30 years.

In Japan, banks that should've failed were allowed to live on. Employees who should have been laid off got lifetime-employment guarantees. Companies that should've gone under were propped up.

But Japan's deficit spending didn't work - all its economic stimulus fell flat. As economist Barry Elias notes, Japan raised its "gross government debt as a percentage of GDP" from 45 percent in 1989 to 170 percent today" with no real effect.

Companies in both Western Europe and the United States faced the opportunity to raise productivity through the new information technologies that became available in the 1990s. In the US, firms were free to fire workers who became redundant as a result of the new computer systems. In Europe, they couldn't. As a result, the US grew rapidly in the last 20 years while Europe stagnated.

The lessons from all of this evidence is that by helping households stay in their homes, cars, colleges and lifestyles through bailouts or stimulus spending, we're killing them with love and consigning the United States to live in the permanent shadow of a debt overhang that will inhibit consumer spending, corporate expansion and economic growth.

The joke is that there is hardly any stimulus spending in the bill to begin with. Read it yourself. All 778 pages.

Have You Seen David After Dentist?

It's pretty funny. Here's a video response: Chad After Dentist

A Bad Start

First, Obama not only has a lack of executive experience, he also possesses no natural talent for management or executive decision making. While a large segment of the American electorate clearly believes that a mellifluous baritone and an ability to read from teleprompter is tantamount to executive excellence, the numerous nomination scandals and the bungling of the $827 billion stimulus bill indicate that the Obama administration will soon make even the disastrous Bush and Clinton administrations look like paragons of competence.

The second thing is that Obama has clarified what was never seriously in doubt: All of his grand promises of inspiration were nothing more than campaign rhetoric designed to appeal to the young, the naïve and the stupid. He promised hope and change, but what he has done instead is prey upon the widespread fear of national catastrophe to engage in the usual legislative bullying so often seen in past Democratic Congresses.

Mr. Doom and Gloom

'Doom' rhetoric seen by some as 'not presidential'

From crisis to catastrophe. Off a cliff. Dark, darker, darkest. Mortal danger of absolute collapse. Armageddon.

President Obama and top Democrats on Capitol Hill are deploying these and other stark predictions of doom and gloom to push through their economic-stimulus package. In terms not heard in Washington since the late 1970s under President Jimmy Carter's watch, the new president has sought to terrify Americans into supporting the $800 billion-plus bailout bill.

So much for hope and "Yes, we can."

"It's not presidential. An American leader needs to be hopeful and optimistic - and truthful. Everything he says is parsed; everything he says is searched for deep meaning. When he goes to 'DefCon 5' on the economy and says that we're on the brink of catastrophe, it's absolutely insane."

With his fiery rhetoric, the new president runs the risk of terrifying consumers and investors, which could depress the economy even further. While the economy is bad, it is a far cry from Great Depression levels, when as many as 30 percent of Americans were unemployed, compared with the 7.6 percent now.

Theory on Dentists

Don't know if it's true but I have the same experience. If I got cavities as an adult at the rate that I got fillings when I was a kid, I wouldn't have any teeth left. They would have been gone a long time ago.

Anyway, it's fun to watch the scenery (Taiwan) in his videos.

Bonus puppies at the end of the video.

Government IS the Problem

Timeless wisdom. I wish we would follow it, but the country seems hell bent on going in the opposite direction, much to our detriment.

As this country becomes less a Christian nation and more a secular one, so the freedom that Christian principles brought to this nation are being lost to servitude, subjection and slavery.

Even if you don't believe in God you are much better off going along with the idea of inalienable rights coming from God than allowing your freedoms to be lost to subjection to the state.

But the fools know better.

Change: A Poor America on Socialism

Moving back to Uncle Sam's plantation by Star Parker

  • Six years ago, I wrote a book called "Uncle Sam's Plantation." I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare state and my own transformation out of it.

I said in that book that indeed there are two Americas. A poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on capitalism.

  • A vast sea of perhaps well-intentioned government programs, all initially set into motion in the 1960s, that were going to lift the nation's poor out of poverty.

A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor black Americans onto the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mindsets from "How do I take care of myself?" to "What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?"

Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism created monstrous moral and spiritual problems – the kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others.

The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunctional inner city schools and broken black families.

Through God's grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood what freedom meant and how great this country is.

  • I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor black communities and replacing it with wealth-producing American capitalism.

But, incredibly, we are going in the opposite direction.

Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like poor America on socialism.

Uncle Sam has welcomed our banks onto the plantation and they have said, "Thank you, Suh."

Now, instead of thinking about what creative things need to be done to serve customers, they are thinking about what they have to tell Massah in order to get their cash.

There is some kind of irony that this is all happening under our first black president on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.

Worse, socialism seems to be the element of our new young president. And maybe even more troubling, our corporate executives seem happy to move onto the plantation.

States Rebellion

Lawmakers in 20 states move to reclaim sovereignty

  • As the Obama administration attempts to push through Congress a nearly $1 trillion deficit spending plan that is weighted heavily toward advancing typically Democratic-supported social welfare programs, a rebellion against the growing dominance of federal control is beginning to spread at the state level.

So far, eight states have introduced resolutions declaring state sovereignty under the Ninth and Tenth Amendment to the Constitution, including Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington.

Analysts expect that in addition, another 20 states may see similar measures introduced this year, including Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, Maine and Pennsylvania.

"What we are trying to do is to get the U.S. Congress out of the state's business,"

  • "Congress is completely out of line spending trillions of dollars over the last 10 years putting the nation into a debt crisis like we've never seen before," Brogdon said, arguing that the Obama stimulus plan is the last straw taxing state patience in the brewing sovereignty dispute.

"This particular 111th Congress is the biggest bunch of over-reachers and underachievers we've ever had in Congress," he said.

"A sixth-grader should realize you can't borrow money to pay off your debt, and that is the Obama administration's answer for a stimulus package," he added.

Only Approved Questions! Please Or Else.

Reporter restrained after Panetta hearing

Following Leon Panetta's confirmation hearing Thursday, several reporters approached the CIA director-designate in the hallway outside room G-50 in the Dirksen Building.

There, CongressDaily reporter Chris Strohm — upon asking a question — was physically restrained by a man who accompanied Panetta at hearings both days.

Strohm, when reached by phone Friday, said he was unsure of the man’s role.

"I felt this hand grab my right arm and push me aside," Strohm said.

By his account, Strohm told the man, "Please don't touch me" more than once. Eventually, the man let him go.

What if this had happened during the Bush administration? Imagine the outrage.

I want to know what the question was. No word on that.

The Gulf Between the Audacity of Hope and the Reality of Pork

Obama mythology could use some stimulus by Mark Steyn

  • Yeah, sure, no previous occupant of the White House has been able to walk on water – your Eisenhowers and Roosevelts, your Chester Arthurs and Grover Clevelands and whatnot. But Barack didn't run as just another of those squaresville losers. He was gonna heal the planet and lower the oceans. So, even if he couldn't walk on water, he should at least be able to paddle in it. "He is a community organizer like Jesus was," said Susan Sarandon, "and now we're a community, and he can organize us."

So how's that going? Jesus took a handful of loaves and two fish and fed 5,000 people. Barack wants to take a trillion pieces of pork and feed it to a handful of Democratic Party interest groups.

  • Appearing on "The Rush Limbaugh Show" last week, I got a little muddled over two adjoining newspaper clippings – one on the stimulus, the other on those octuplets in California – and for a brief moment the two stories converged. Everyone's hammering that mom – she's divorced, unemployed, living in a small house with parents who have a million bucks' worth of debt, and she's already got six kids. So she has in vitro fertilization to have eight more. But isn't that exactly what the Feds have done? Last fall, they gave birth to $850 billion of bailout they couldn't afford and didn't have enough time to keep an eye on, and now, four months later, they're going to do it all over again, but this time they want trillionuplets. Barney and Nancy represent the in vitro fertilization of the federal budget. And it's the taxpayers who'll get stuck with the diapers.

  • Those supporters who were wary of touting Obama as the walk-on-water Messiah did their best to lower expectations by hailing him merely as the new FDR. You remember the old FDR – "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." Ha! With the new New Deal, we have everything to fear. As President Obama warned Tuesday, "A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe." If you're of those moonstruck Obammysoxers still driving around with the "HOPE, NOT FEAR" bumper stickers, please note that, due to an unfortunate proofreading error at the printing plant, certain nouns in that phrase may have become accidentally transposed.

This is turning out to be a disaster.

No Stimulus for TV Stations

Obama's Preemptive Strike

President Obama's desire to talk -- and talk, and talk -- to the American public could cost broadcast networks millions, and millions, and millions of prime-time TV dollars.

Broadcasters are bracing themselves for the likelihood of three prime-time interruptions in three weeks, totaling at least three hours of prime time -- and ad breaks -- yanked.

"His economic stimulus package apparently does not extend to the TV networks," one network exec noted.

Obama's reps have alerted broadcasters that the president will hold a news conference Monday, according to network execs. It's expected to eat up the first hour of prime time; that alone could cost broadcasters more than $9 million in lost ad revenue.

The Only Thing You Have to Fear ...

The Fierce Urgency of Pork

"A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe."
-- President Obama, Feb. 4.

Catastrophe, mind you. So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared "we have chosen hope over fear." Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.

SKorean granny fails driving test 771 times

"The 68-year-old, identified only by her last name Cha, has taken the test almost every working day since 2005 in the southwestern city of Jeonju. She failed again Monday for the 771st time."

"...Cha cannot pass the preliminary written section of the test, averaging scores of 30-50 whereas the pass mark is 60 out of 100."

I think her first name is SpongeBob.

NoScript Works Great

I just want to say the problem I had with NoScript and my blogroll is no more. I am now using the latest development version 1.9.0.3 and it works great. I love NoScript.

Special thanks to Giorgio Maone for a quick answer and fix.

E*TRADE Baby Outtakes

"I wanna punch the economy in the face!"

Where's Obama on This Emergency?

Kentucky: No Power, No FEMA

When a million people in flyover country are suffering, and 42 people have died, we don’t hear much about it. If this was New York, Washington, Boston, (or if the president had an R after his name) you’d see non-stop reports, and the press would be roundly criticizing FEMA’s absence, and the White House’s disregard. Right?

Blog-not-Rolling

I haven't seen my blogroll in a while and I know blogrolling has been having problems so I just assumed it was related. Today I used my wife's computer and noticed the blogroll was working. OK, but now I'm using my computer it is not. We both have and use Firefox. I opened my blog in Explorer and the blogroll is there (works in Chrome, too). Something is causing my blogroll to fail to load in my computer's Firefox - could it be NoScript? I don't think so, if I allow scripts globally there is still no blogroll. I am puzzled, but now that I know it should be working I will figure it out. Just not now.

Update Feb 2, 5:47pm: It is NoScript causing the problem, when I disable it the blogroll appears. The puzzling thing is that the page is trusted and all scripts on that page are allowed, nothing is blocked. Even if I allow scripts globally I don't see the blogroll. I have to disable NoScript to get it to work.

Shhh, Obama Can't Do Magic If You Tell All His Secrets

Evidently Obama the Whiner can't work his socialistic voodoo if Rush Limbaugh keeps free thinking and running his mouth off. Dammit, Rush, you're ruining Obama's ability to cast his spell! Barack's aversion to Rush reminds me of how my brother never liked using the Ouija board when I was around because my presence always "grieved the spirits."

Yep, if Limbaugh unleashes his First Amendment rights, the President cannot make manifest his mucked-up machinations he learned as a pup sitting in Saul Alinsky's literary lap (which means that Obamaland cannot be built). This would be too funny if it wasn't so pathetically sad and a prophetically bad precursor of the mitigating muzzle Obama would like to strap on the conservative mouth.

In contrast to Obama's bleat last week, hearken back to days of yore when 43 was in office. Dubya got some "work done," if I'm not mistaken, and he had everybody and their rabid dog railing against him 24/7 from every conceivable sector of the MSM. Please note: Bush didn’t whine about it and call on the carping clods to cease and desist their vitriol because he couldn't "kill terrorists if Keith keeps complaining."

Matter of fact, when GW was attacked the most viciously and the reporters asked what he thought about the rancor, he routinely said that his enemies' ability to spew their insanity on their ubiquitous, poorly-rated sucky "news" shows is exactly what makes America great, i.e. the freedom to be an ass if you insist. Bush, for all his foibles, played a true cool hand with his critics, laughed when shoes were thrown at him and reveled in this thing that is about to go on the endangered species list in our nation—namely our freedom.

Socialists like Obama, however, cannot work in an environment in which leaders and citizens do not do-si-do when he says so. Geez, the press corps can't even toss him a question during a meet and greet without Barack getting testy. Therefore, Limbaugh, and all dissenters like him, must bow and kiss the ring or suffer vilification and marginalization for not being "bipartisan and tolerant."

Whatever Do You Mean, Rightful Place?

Science Holds the Key - Or Does It?

  • "Today, more than ever before, science holds the key to our survival as a planet and our security and prosperity as a nation." Thus, proclaimed Barack Obama in a radio address this past December. He drove the point home in his inaugural speech, declaring, "We will restore science to its rightful place."

But just what does Mr. Obama mean by "rightful place"? He obviously intended to contrast his approach to science with that of President Bush, but what does this contrast imply? President Bush believed that scientific inquiry should be circumscribed by ethical constraints. He, therefore, refused to allow federal funding for stem cell research that would result in the destruction of human embryos. Bush was dubbed a "neanderthal" by many scientists because he felt that "ethics" should trump "utility." He was pilloried for his decision and President Obama has been among his critics.

Is ethical restraint of scientific inquiry the problem that Obama seeks to correct? Should scientific inquiry trump ethics?

  • While science has brought mankind countless benefits, it should not be held out as the fount of all knowledge. Yet, it frequently is. Scientists have been anointed the high priests of our modern era, when, in reality, they are mere mortals: fallible, biased, frequently mistaken, and subject to undue influence. Unlike the media's portrayal, the scientific community is frequently divided—there is very little "consensus." And often, the "prevailing view" is later proven wrong.

Science can be a very useful tool, used properly. Extremely useful. It can also be used for evil, and sort of like a gun, it totally depends on the character of the person using it. The character of some of the people using it lately has been getting a bit shabby.
