Winning!

"You have to be an overcomer, but you can't overcome without something to overcome."

"You can't win without an adversary, you can't climb to the top of a mountain without a mountain, you can't get to the other side without a river, you can't forgive unless you have been wronged, you can't be healed unless you get sick."

It's Symbolic of Our Struggle Against Reality

They may leave the roller coaster that fell into the ocean in Seaside Heights, New Jersey during Hurricane Sandy right where it is as a tourist attraction.

To symbolize the direction the country is headed? Yes, that's completely appropriate- off it's foundation and in the water.

Wasn't He Just Re-elected?

Jesse Jackson Jr. Resigning From Congress
Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. has resigned from Congress, citing health reasons and an intensifying federal investigation into the use of his campaign funds.
You know it's bad when a Democrat resigns. Republicans resign the first chance they get but Democrats push on through regardless of the circumstance. Usually. He has a serious mental illness or he has done something seriously wrong - or probably both. Doing something seriously wrong alone doesn't faze Democrats.

Sitzen Machen!

Three excellent James Cagney movies. I've seen his most famous movies on TV a long time ago but I'd never seen, or even heard of, most of his work and thanks to Netflix I found these three gems.

The first, Run For Cover, is a western. This is the first one I ran across and I really enjoyed it. Made me want to watch more James Cagney.

Next: The Gallant Hours. He is Adm. William Halsey in this one during the war at Guadalcanal.

Next: One, Two, Three. I don't know where the title comes from (Yes, I do. He talks fast, missed it the first time) but this one is funny and it highlights the fact that we have already been through the whole communist/free market thing before. It takes place in 1961 Germany after the Communists sealed off the border of East Berlin and James Cagney works for Coca-Cola. His boss sends his daughter to stay in Berlin with Cagney's family and she ends up falling in love with a communist. Hilarity ensues.

Comrade 1: "...then we just cross the border into West Berlin."

Comrade 2: "That's easy for you to say, you're a bachelor, but if I defect, you know what they will do to my family? They will line them up against the wall and shoot them - my wife, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, my brother-in-law... Comrades, lets do it!"

Bonus movie (not streamed): Mr. Roberts, but it is on Amazon Prime

The New Freedom

Campus bans Ann Coulter, invites professor who calls sex with animals potentially 'satisfying'
After effectively barring conservative columnist Ann Coulter from speaking on campus last week, the Jesuit college Fordham University welcomed infanticide and bestiality advocate Peter Singer for a panel discussion on Friday.

According to Fordham’s media relations website, Singer, a tenured Princeton bioethics professor, spoke from 4 to 6 p.m. in a panel the university promised "will provoke Christians to think about other animals in new ways."

Caffeinated Everything

New line of Cracker Jacks to contain caffeine
A Frito Lay spokesman told Ad Age that Power Bites will include two flavours "that will contain coffee, a natural source of caffeine, as an ingredient."
Monster Energy should buy the rights to Twinkies and produce Monster Energy Twinkies.

The Road We're On

Special Report: How a vicious circle of self-interest sank a California city
San Bernardino's problems appear to be mainly the result of back-scratching on an epic scale.
This goes on at all levels of government all over the country. It's only a "problem" in San Bernardino because they ran out of other peoples money before the rest of us. They are one of the first to find the cliff.

What is Freedom?

Rush hits the nail on the head here.
We are the party of liberty. We are the essence of liberty and freedom. That's what it's all about. When I made my CPAC speech, the theme was liberty. We want this to be the greatest country ever. We want you to be the best you can be. We want everybody to be the best they can be. We want to get all the obstacles out of people's way. Freedom. Why is that a hard sell? Because it is. Freedom did not win in this election. Freedom did not win. Why is it a hard sell? Why are those of us proclaiming freedom, why are we the ones mocked, laughed at, insulted or impugned? 'Cause that's all we stand for, that's all we want for anybody and ourselves is liberty and freedom.

And yet look at how we're really viewed. We are seen as the deniers of freedom. And why? Well, we don't believe in abortion, and to the left the ultimate freedom is aborting your baby. Gay marriage. We're said to be on the wrong side of gay marriage. To the left, especially to the young today, gay marriage, gay rights is the legalized pot issue of the sixties. It is the thing they care most about. It is the civil rights issue of the sixties. Gay rights and gay marriage, among young college people, age 30, maybe a little older.

We are not looked at as people who believe in freedom. They see us as thwarting their freedom. Figure that. Now, there's a reason why. I know the answer. That is because on our side, along with freedom, there are natural limits to it that we call morality. And that's what the other side doesn't want any part of. You start talking about morality, that's judgmental. That's not freedom. If you start implementing morality, they say you're imposing your moral views on everybody, when all we think we're doing is continuing traditions and institutions which have been shown to maintain the freest, most productive, conducive, peaceful society the world has known.

Morality is a key element. Don't talk to them about that. Morality, it's old-fashioned, it's none of your business. I mean, when Romney goes around and talks about limiting regulations on entrepreneurs, it's the essence of the liberty agenda, it's the essence of an economic free agenda. But culturally, freedom in pop culture means no obstacles on the road to what we call depravity and decadence. They call it enlightenment, emancipation. I'm sorry. To fix this is going to be a cultural undertaking, in addition to or instead of political.

That's just how they define it, Congressman. What he thinks is liberty and freedom is the absence of totalitarianism, authoritarianism. It's not at all how pop cultural leftists see freedom. They see freedom as no conservatives around. They see freedom as no corporations. They see freedom as you don't have to work, and you can still live. You don't have to have to accept any responsibility or accountability. It will be taken care of. A doctor shouldn't profit from making somebody well. You want to talk about morality, to them that's immoral. Because at the top of all this has been decade after decade after decade of the trashing of capitalism.

What do you think free markets means to the vast majority of people that voted for Obama? You think it means anything? Do you think the phrase "free markets" means anything to them? Greed, exploitation, taking advantage of. Free markets to them is evil corporations outsourcing jobs or paying people the minimum wage. It's the opposite of fair markets. Fair markets, of course, are when authoritarians make rules for everybody that they must follow.
God's formula for freedom works, the world's formula does not. However, in the history of man, being wrong has never stopped him from moving full speed ahead with what it thinks is right and failing miserably.

When Parasites Kill the Hostess

Twinkies Maker Hostess Going Out of Business, CEO Blames Union Strike
Hostess, the makers of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread, is going out of business after striking workers failed to heed a Thursday deadline to return to work, the company said.
Times are changing. People are trying to eat healthier. You have to adapt or die. Unions only understand more, more, more. Concession is not in their vocabulary. Union members are voting and now striking themselves out of their jobs. Given the economic outlook, this will not be the last time.

Mark Steyn rips White House press corps 'court eunuchs': 'You made fools of yourselves'
"The idiot from The New York Times asking a question on global warming? Some giggly little schoolgirl from Chicago wetting her knickers, saying she's watched Obama win every time?"

"I mean, you're supposed to be grown men and women," Steyn continued. "You made fools of yourselves. He gives his first press conference in whatever it is — in one, two, three, twelve years — and you don't even think about extracting any meaningful information from him."
My biggest beef with so-called journalists is that all during the breaking of Fast and Furious and the Benghazi scandal they act like nothing is happening but the minute a general gets a little nooki on the side they are all over it and come out with the minutest of details - pictures, emails, everything comes out of the woodwork - and go on and on for days about, only interrupted by Israel defending itself (How dare they!).

Journalism is a joke!

“I know someone's dying and all, but I am in real pain here.”

A Letter to the Country from an Emergency Physician
I am an emergency physician with an apolitical message in this rather politically charged, polarized time in our country. I have worked for some time in this profession, and have noticed a disturbing trend about which I must speak out — the growing number of emergency department scenarios in which the selfishness and entitlement of those without real emergencies drown out the quiet suffering of those in real need.

Alien experiment failed BBC health and safety test
The media behemoth shut down a TV presenter's plan to point a radio telescope at a newly-discovered planet out of fear that aliens might answer back.

"The BBC actually said, 'But you can't do that because we need to go through the regulations and health and safety and everything in case we discover a signal from an alien civilisation'."

Heartwarming

Amazing story of survival after Toms River man leaves 'farewell' note
He said he was at his home in the Green Island community of Toms River when his kitchen was swept away, so he walked out of his house and was swept up in the current. He said he was pulled a half-mile into the bay and then spent about four hours trying to swim back home.

"Well, the current took me to somewhere, which I didn't even know where I was, and it threw me back into the bay. And I tried to swim back to my house for some reason," Mike said. "You know, sometimes you don't think."
He ends up in a strangers house that has towels on the sofa and wool blankets laying around, seemingly prepared for him. Amazing.

This One is Weird

US Government Invited Brazilian Psychic to Avert Sandy
According to Istoé, a major Brazilian magazine, Brazilian psychic Adelaide Scritori had travelled in a hurry to the Caribbean Islands by invitation from the US government and an insurance company in New York. Her purposed mission was to weaken Superstorm Sandy.

Her husband, who is also the spokesman for Chief Coral Snake Foundation in Brazil, said that her mission was a success, because without her intervention the superstorm would have claimed thousands of lives.

This is not the first time that psychic Scritori intervenes in America. During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she also invoked spirits and, according to his followers, she “saved” thousands of people.
I partly believe this because it sounds like Obama, he "saved" thousands of jobs. Or is it millions? Does it make a difference?

Julio closes his post with this:
Are not the dark forces in the White House enough?
It's quite enough, thank you. Time for a change.

Sandy Aftermath Video

Mantaloking to Normandy Beach, New Jersey.

Incredible.

The Marathon Must Go On?

Bloomberg diverts food, generators from devastated Staten Island to NYC marathon
Considering all the volunteer help and NYPD attention that's already being diverted to the Marathon, the added sight of generators and food being channeled to the event is probably going to strike some New Yorkers as a little misplaced—we're thinking of the ones who are currently lined up waiting for the National Guard to ration out MREs and bottles of water.
Yes, that's it, a little misplaced. The runners should refuse to run the marathon this year.

Update: Marathon cancelled.
It is the right thing.

Utility workers pelted with eggs after Bridgeport, Conn. mayor blasts provider
United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.

Just Wow.

Really? New Jersey Turns Away Non-union Relief Crews
How desperate is hurricane-ravaged New Jersey? Not desperate enough to suspend a union monopoly that keeps the state in the bottom ten states for economic competitiveness (and #48 for business friendliness). Relief crews from Alabama who were specifically called to New Jersey found themselves diverted to Long Island, NY after they arrived because they use non-union labor.
I hate New Jersey, grew up there, escaped.

But wait, there's more.
A business coordinator at a power company in western Georgia told The Daily Caller Friday afternoon that workers from his electric-utility employer were not permitted to help restore power to New York consumers because they would not join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

On Thursday evening WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Ala. reported that the devastated coastal town of Seaside Heights, N.J. turned away a crew from Decatur Utilities in Decatur, Ala., saying they couldn’t do any work there because they’re not union employees.
