Migrant windsurfs to U.S. from Cuba

A Cuban migrant windsurfed from Cuba to Key West Tuesday, but two other windsurfers he was with were apparently lost in the Gulf Stream about 60 miles south of the Florida Keys, according to Key West police and the Coast Guard.

They are still dying to get here, and terribly disappointed in us if they make it. They risk their lives for freedom, we give our freedom away to shysters and crooks for a little cold comfort.

Disturbingly, I think the 1930's are echoing through our present day.

In the German elections of 1932, the Nazi party received 37 percent of the vote. They became part of a democratically elected coalition government, in which Hitler became chancellor. Only step by step did the Nazis dismantle democratic freedoms and turn the country into a complete dictatorship.

The political majority could have united to stop Hitler from becoming a dictator. But they did not unite. They fought each other over their differences. Some figured that they would take over after the Nazis were discredited and defeated.

Many who plotted this clever strategy died in Nazi concentration camps. Unfortunately, so did millions of others.

Honest Mistake?

Here's a good one. A guy pushes to get the SAFE Act passed, making carrying a gun on school property a felony (among other things).

The he carries a gun on school property.

"No one imagined that on Thursday he would show up at the school in possession of a gun, touching off an hours-long lockdown, search and ultimately his arrest on two felony charges."

Now they're defending him saying he didn't mean any harm. What about all the children who were punished for stupid things like finger guns or pop tart guns or t-shirts? The SAFE Act is bad law and never should have been passed, but I have no sympathy for this man at all. Karma is a bitch.

On a side note, he has a permit to carry a gun - presumably concealed? Does New York permit open carry? - Unless it was open carry, how did anyone know he had the gun?
