Sheep to the Slaughter
Dismantling America Part 2 by Thomas Sowell
"Tom, you don't understand," he said. "Those people need to believe in that man. They have invested so much hope and trust in him that they cannot let you stir up any doubts."
Save the Earth BIG Government
'The environment' is the most ingenious cover story ever devised for Big Government
I'm always appreciative when a fellow says what he really means. Tim Flannery, the jet-setting doomsaying global warm-monger from down under, was in Ottawa the other day promoting his latest eco-tract, and offered a few thoughts on "Copenhagen"—which is transnational-speak for December's UN Convention on Climate Change. "We all too often mistake the nature of those negotiations in Copenhagen," remarked professor Flannery. "We think of them as being concerned with some sort of environmental treaty. That is far from the case. The negotiations now ongoing toward the Copenhagen agreement are in effect diplomacy at the most profound global level. They deal with every aspect of our life and they will influence every aspect of our life, our economy, our society."
Emphasis mine. This is not going to end well.

What Price Everything?
Asks Jonah Goldberg.
What possible price would warmists agree is just too high? Right now, greens want to spend trillions of dollars and export our manufacturing base to China and India in a foolish attempt to slightly ameliorate global warming. But it certainly seems that that's just the opening bid. If democracy is worth sacrificing, and dogs, cats, and unborn children are up for discussion, where is the line we will not cross?
What is the price we can all agree just isn't worth paying?
The Earth is in no danger from mankind, and will be around long after we are gone.
As George Carlin has said, "The planet will shake us off like a bad case of fleas."
What is happening to the planet is the least of our problems. What is happening to our character - that's the biggest problem.
It Just Keeps Getting Worse and Worse
Parents banned from watching their children in playgrounds... in case they are paedophiles
Yes, it's England again, but we are headed down that road. And we're not slowing down.
Mark Steyn comments:
I keep getting e-mails saying, "People will reach a tipping point and they'll no longer put up with this stuff." I doubt it. Right now the way to bet is that once free societies will retreat incrementally, one trivial step after another, into a totalitarian hell.
Excuse Me
What part of "We don't want ACORN anywhere near our government" you don't understand?
Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) that will make ACORN eligible to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions.
Our government at work, they know it's wrong but they do it anyway.

In the Name of Diversity
This is worth a read, Mark Steyn usually is.
A Tale of Two Soundbites by Mark Steyn
Hey, that's pretty impressive when they can't get your big final-score death toll nailed down to closer than 30 million. Still, as President Obama's communications director might say, he lived his dream, and so can you, although if your dream involves killing, oh, 50–80 million Chinamen, you may have your work cut out. But let's stick with the Fenby figure: He killed 40–70 million Chinamen. Whoops, can you say "Chinamen" or is that racist? Oh, and sexist. So hard keeping up with the Sensitivity Police in this pansified political culture, isn’t it? But you can kill 40–70 million Chinamen and that's fine and dandy: You'll be cited as an inspiration by the White House to an audience of high-school students. You can be anything you want to be! Look at Mao: He wanted to be a mass murderer, and he lived his dream! You can too!
Be all you can be! As long as you're not a Conservative, Christian.

Quote of the Day
I'm living a nightmare. A nightmare where I am forbidden to judge a person by the content of his character, because of the color of his skin. --GrumpyOldFart
Hat Tip: The Smallest Minority
Totalitarianism is the New Black
Grandmother who objected to gay march is accused of hate crime
After witnessing a gay pride march, committed Christian Pauline Howe wrote to the council to complain that the event had been allowed to go ahead.
But instead of a simple acknowledgement, she received a letter warning her she might be guilty of a hate crime and that the matter had been passed to police.
Two officers later turned up at the frightened grandmother's home and lectured her about her choice of words before telling her she would not be prosecuted.
Mark Steyn comments on the story: Nobody Expects the British Inquisition
As to "an intention of hate," strange how the "pre-crime" language of Philip K. Dick's sci-fi dystopia now passes almost without notice.
The conformity enforcers of "tolerance" and "diversity" are growing ever more explicitly totalitarian.
Bullying the Powerless
Obama a tough guy, at least with Fox News
The trouble is it isn't tough, not where toughness counts. Who are the real "Untouchables" here? In Moscow, it's Putin and his gang, contemptuously mocking U.S. officials even when (as with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton) they're still on Russian soil. In Tehran, it's Ahmadinejad and the mullahs openly nuclearizing as ever feebler warnings and woozier deadlines from the Great Powers come and go. Even Obama's Nobel Peace Prize is an exquisite act of condescension from the Norwegians, a dog biscuit and a pat on the head to the American hyperpower for agreeing to spay itself into a hyperpoodle. We were told that Obama would use "soft power" and "smart diplomacy" to get his way. Russia and Iran are big players with global ambitions, but Obama's soft power is so soft it doesn't even work its magic on a client regime in Kabul whose leaders' very lives are dependent on Western troops. If Obama's "smart diplomacy" is so smart that even Hamid Karzai ignores it with impunity, why should anyone else pay attention?
The strange disparity between the heavy-handed community organization at home and the ever cockier untouchables abroad risks making the commander in chief look like a weenie – like "President Pantywaist," as Britain's Daily Telegraph has taken to calling him.
The Chicago way? Don't bring a knife to a gunfight? In Iran, this administration won't bring a knife to a nuke fight. In Eastern Europe, it won't bring missile defense to a nuke fight. In Sudan, it won't bring a knife to a machete fight.
Is This What You Want?
Dismantling of America by Thomas Sowell
Just one year ago, would you have believed that an unelected government official, not even a Cabinet member confirmed by the Senate but simply one of the many "czars" appointed by the president, could arbitrarily cut the pay of executives in private businesses by 50 percent or 90 percent?
Did you think that another "czar" would be talking about restricting talk radio? That there would be plans afloat to subsidize newspapers – that is, to create a situation where some newspapers' survival would depend on the government liking what they publish?
Did you imagine that anyone would even be talking about having a panel of so-called "experts" deciding who could and could not get lifesaving medical treatments?
Scary as that is from a medical standpoint, it is also chilling from the standpoint of freedom. If you have a mother who needs a heart operation or a child with some dire medical condition, how free would you feel to speak out against an administration that has the power to make life and death decisions about your loved ones?
Does any of this sound like America?

Hurry Up and Wait!
From the people who brought us the swine flu vaccine shortage - Government-run health care!
President Obama's late-night declaration of a nationwide public health emergency last night shouldn't be allowed to obscure the most important lesson of the developing swine flu crisis - The same government that only weeks ago promised abundant supplies of swine flu vaccine by mid-October will be running your health care system under Obamacare.
Government Not Immune From Greed
AP finally reports on insurance industry’s thin margins
While Democrats in Congress have spent months demonizing insurers as greedy villainous monsters,...
The average profit margin for health insurers last year clocked in at an anemic 2.2%. What does that mean from the investor position? They would have done better to put their money into FDIC-insured savings accounts at their local bank, let alone a CD or other guaranteed investment device. A 2.2% profit margin would normally trigger a stockholder revolt.
Not quite the profiteers they're made out to be by certain individuals who want to ram government health care down our throats. It's beginning to become obvious that it's the government that's got a serious greed problem.

No Jacuzzi in Communism
Hugo Chavez: No Singing in the Shower Amid Water Concerns
"If you are going to lie back, in the bath, with the soap and you turn on the what's it called, the Jacuzzi ... imagine that, what kind of communism is that? We're not in times of Jacuzzi," Chavez said.
No singing in the shower and no Jacuzzi. Three minutes is enough, he counted, says he doesn't stink. That's not what she said.
Hear that America? Communism sucks! And it's smelly, like hippies.
Yes, They Do
"You know, the American people cherish their freedom of speech and a free and independent press."
"So to my friends in the so-called ‘mainstream media’ I say, ‘conservative talk show hosts may not speak for everybody but they speak for more Americans than you do.’"
Isn't It Always the Way
Hulu's Free Glory Days Are Officially Numbered
It's time to start getting paid for broadcast content online. I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content. I think what we need to do is deliver that content to consumers in a way where they will appreciate the value. Hulu concurs with that, it needs to evolve to have a meaningful subscription model as part of its business.
Solidarity, Brother
The Obama administration tried to bar Fox News from interviewing the Pay Czar and NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN took a stand with Fox and refused to do the interview if Fox was not included. Way to go!

The Party of Racial Division
Justice concludes black voters need Democratic Party
Voters in this small city decided overwhelmingly last year to do away with the party affiliation of candidates in local elections, but the Obama administration recently overruled the electorate and decided that equal rights for black voters cannot be achieved without the Democratic Party.
The Justice Department's ruling, which affects races for City Council and mayor, went so far as to say partisan elections are needed so that black voters can elect their "candidates of choice" - identified by the department as those who are Democrats and almost exclusively black.
The department ruled that white voters in Kinston will vote for blacks only if they are Democrats and that therefore the city cannot get rid of party affiliations for local elections because that would violate black voters' right to elect the candidates they want.

Global Warming is a Scam, a Fraud, a Lie, a Hoax...
And the people pushing climate change legislation resort to lies because that's all they have to back their agenda.
Press Falls for Yet Another Hoax
And they sent an e-mail out claiming that they were the Chamber of Commerce, that they had done a 180 and Chamber of Commerce was now ready to join Obama on cap and trade, and it was false. It was a total hoax. They didn't check it; they didn't backtrack it; they didn't track it down; they didn't source it; they just accepted the e-mail. Folks, we learn today it's even worse. They had a press conference. The hoax group had a press conference. Yesterday in Washington, the National Press Club, US Chamber of Commerce Director of Communications Eric Wohlschlegel interrupted a fake press conference being held by a man calling himself Hingo Sembra, purportedly with the Chamber. You'll also hear an unidentified reporter in this bit.
Typical press reaction as well, it fits their template, their agenda, so it must be true. Why check the facts?

Deja Vu
Obama enlists Fannie and Freddie in bid to boost mortgages
The Obama administration launched a new initiative Monday aimed at supporting affordable mortgages, backed by the federal government.
Several cabinet agencies announced a new program to provide assistance to state housing financing agencies (HFAs), administered in part by the government-run Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac companies.
Dude! This is exactly what pushed our economy over the edge in the first place. We haven't even recovered from it yet, talk about kicking a man when he's down.
What's the definition of insanity again? Either that or you are deliberately sabotaging out country. Which is it?
The Putrid Odor of Treason
Only Idiots listen to these "Leaders"
Not long ago U.N. Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, told everyone they only had a few weeks in order to save the Earth from “climate change” and this week it’s the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Gordon Brown.
Ever since he was Vice President and a defeated candidate for the presidency, Al Gore has been telling people the Earth is doomed.
President Obama talks about climate change—remember when it used to be global warming?—and will no doubt sign the treaty coming out of a “climate” conference in Copenhagen in December. The real problem will be whether the Senate will ratify it because, if it does, the U.S. Constitution will be nullified in favor of a global government.
Ever since the first United Nations conference on “global warming” the only goal has been to establish a global government so that the “leaders” could grow wealthy while the rest of mankind is treated like cattle.
Lord Christopher Monckton speaks on October 14th, 2009 at a climate skeptic event:
Full speech here. Highly recommended, make time for it.

Death Panels
Government would never make life and death decisions for you, would they?
Florida health officials are drawing up guidelines that recommend barring patients with incurable cancer, end-stage multiple sclerosis and other conditions from being admitted to hospitals if the state is overwhelmed by flu cases.
No, anyone suggesting that is crazy!
Edit 10/20: Government Control Leads to Denial of Care
The Delusions of Multiculturalism
Mark Steyn on the protests against Geert Wilders in England:
These young men are, de jure, British subjects and, de facto, the demographic energy of every city down the spine of the country. "Islam will dominate!" they yell, impatient that it doesn't already, not entirely. The delusions of multiculturalism have brought about the death of England - in nothing flat. An amazing feat.
Hot Air?
From Jay Nordlinger:
I keep hearing that Glenn Beck is just a blowhard opinionist, contributing nothing but hot air. If that is true, why do we keep learning news from him? About Van Jones, about ACORN, about Anita Dunn . . . I mean, isn't that the New York Times's job? No? What a strange era we’re living in.

Anita Dunn Must Step Down
A Maoist in the White House
In a speech before high school students last June, Dunn spoke passionately about her two favorite political philosophers, “the two people I turn to most” for answers to important questions like “how to do things that have never been done before.” Who are these paragons? One was Mother Teresa. Dunn didn’t have much to say about her. Most of her enthusiasm was lavished upon her other favorite fount of political wisdom: Mao Tse-Tung.
Mao Tse-Tung. That would be the deviant monster who, quite apart from his disgusting personal life, engineered the mass murder of anywhere from 50 to over 100 million people. Estimates vary so widely because murder on that wholesale scale is difficult to tabulate, especially in a country as backwards as China was under Mao’s long reign. But there is little doubt that Mao has the grisly distinction of being the greatest mass murderer in history.
You might as well quote Hitler, a not quite as mass, mass murderer.
Killing Us Softly
Drill
Reliance on foreign sources of energy weakens America. When a riot breaks out in an OPEC nation, or a developing country talks about nationalizing its oil industry, or a petro-dictator threatens to cut off exports, the probability is great that the price of oil will shoot up. Even in friendly nations, business and financial decisions made for local reasons can destabilize America’s energy market, since the price we pay for foreign oil is subject to rising and falling exchange rates. Decreasing our dependence on foreign sources of energy will reduce the impact of world events on our economy.
I dare say the oil independence problem is far more critical than the health care problem. If we don't have oil, health care will be the least of your problems.
Yes We Can
The human race is afflicted with a strange and persistent insanity that makes men think that human wisdom is equal to every challenge and problem faced by the human race.

Oh Where, Oh Where Could All Those Jobs Be?
Obama says he is looking at any way to create jobs.
This would help:
"This economy is an embarrassment, and it needn't be this way. This is the United States of America! If this man and this administration would simply get out of everyone's way and turn the people loose, we would have a vibrant recovery faster than you can snap your fingers."--Rush Limbaugh
They Have Found a Witch
The Rush Limbaugh media lynch mob
The irony is, of course, that the people reporting this as fact are the same types who are always denouncing bloggers and the internet as forces of evil intent on destroying proper journalism – proper journalism being the kind that involves checking facts. In the case of Rush Limbaugh, however, it seems to be enough that the intention (i.e. to show the talk radio host is a racist) is considered pure.
Even those who have been primary movers in spreading these malicious falsehoods – which would lead to payouts of hundreds of thousands in British libel courts if lawsuits were ever filed there – are brazenly unapologetic.
Oct 15: Rush gives some details.
He was part of an investment group trying to purchase the Rams. The partner with the largest investment would have had a 30% stake. The rest of the partners - including Rush - would have had less. So all this fuss, these lies, have been over a minority partner with no say in the direction of the team.
This was a witch hunt and the hunters acted exactly as those in the Monty Python clip above.
Most Embarassing News Article Evah
I wouldn't normally post this but it's so ridiculous...
Allyson White said the standout burn mark left by her seatbelt across her chest was proof the claims of "amorous activities" with the driver were not true.
It goes down hill from there. Crude language warning.
That'll Teach Him
Mooning German dragged half-naked by train
The 22-year-old journalism student shoved his backside against the window of a low-slung double-decker train when staff forced him off in Lauenbrueck for traveling without a ticket,
I've never understood the point of mooning. It's stupid.
Instead, dangling by his trousers, the man got pulled along for about 200 metres, all the while managing to keep his legs away from the wheels of the train.
In the picture it looks like one guy is on the phone. What's that about? Is he talking to the one guy who couldn't make the mooning, giving him a play by play? Some people just don't know how to let go.
"Hey, I've got to go now, I'm gonna moon a train. I'll call you later."

The Horror of Government Healthcare
My husband had beaten cancer, then doctors WRONGLY told him it had returned and sent him to a hospice who let him die
A grandfather who beat cancer was wrongly told the disease had returned and left to die at a hospice which pioneered a controversial 'death pathway'.
Doctors said there was nothing more they could do for 76-year- old Jack Jones, and his family claim he was denied food, water and medication except painkillers.
He died within two weeks. But tests after his death found that his cancer had not come back and he was in fact suffering from pneumonia brought on by a chest infection.
To his family's horror, they were told he could have recovered if he'd been given the correct treatment.
Mr Jones was being cared for at a hospice which was central to the contentious Liverpool Care Pathway under which dying patients have their life support taken away, although the hospice claims it wasn't officially applied in his case.
The scheme is used by hundreds of hospitals and care homes, and is followed in as many as 20,000 deaths a year.
Supporters say it brings dignity to a patient's final hours, but critics fear that some are placed into it incorrectly.
The "care pathway" was unofficially applied? Why do socialist name everything the opposite of what it is?
Despite the fact that no tests were carried out to confirm the diagnosis, his family say doctors instructed nurses to stop giving him food and fluids.
But a post-mortem examination found he was free of cancer and had in fact died of pneumonia.
'We fought in the hospice to get Jack the right treatment and they blocked us, making us feel we were a nuisance. (The government never makes you feel that way, does it?)
The bottom line.
The hospice's lawyer, Dorothy Flower, said it had settled the case to enable Mrs Jones to grieve for her husband, but did not accept liability. 'Some things are done for economic reasons, and a case like this costs a huge amount of money, which would do nobody any good,' she said.

White House: Fox News 'a wing of the Republican Party'
"Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party," Dunn said.
"What I think is fair to say about Fox, and certainly the way we view it, is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party," she added.
The weak, ineffective, bumbling Republican party is the director of the most popular and effective news channel in the United States. That makes about as much sense as the economic policies coming out of the Obama administration.
The Obama administration is the most immature, shortsighted, self-aggrandizing administration I've ever seen in the United States, probably that's ever been elected to office here.
Liberty is More Precious than Gold
Right Turn on Main Street by Mark Steyn
I'm a foreigner. In the wake of the economic meltdown last fall, there were protests from Iceland to Bulgaria, with mobs all demanding the same thing of their rulers: Why didn’t you the government do more for me? This is the only country in the developed world where hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets to tell the state: I can do just fine if you’d only get the hell out of my life – or at least confine yourself to constitutional responsibilities. I find that heartening and hopeful. After all, if you’re an immigrant, there’s nothing new about Obama: Been there, done that. He's the land where we grew up, with its union bullies and marginal tax rates and government automobiles and general air of sclerosis, all re-emerging Brigadoon-like from the mists entirely unspoilt by progress. It's like landing at Ellis Island in 1883, coming down the gangplank, and finding everyone excited about this pilot program they’ve introduced called "serfdom".
The Government Needs to Get Out of the Way
Government has never increased the standard of living of one single human being in civilization's history. For some reason that simple truth has evaded everybody. The only thing that creates an increased standard of living is giving someone a job, the demand for their labor -- whether it's you and I, Chris, or anybody else. The people that are paying the price for this juggernaut of federal spending are the middle class and the working class of America.
And soaring rhetoric and great speeches with or without a teleprompter aren't going to change the truth, and the truth is: The biggest enemy, the biggest obstacle that working middle-class America has is government spending.

Tainted Green
Saving the Earth by Hating Humanity
As the greatest hoax of the modern era, "global warming", bites the dust around the world, it behooves us all to contemplate why environmentalists—Greens—would attempt to hoodwink the world's population into believing they could do anything to "control" the planet’s climate.

Sadly, those same grizzlies Timothy had grown to love and understand killed and partially ate both he and his girlfriend.

Sunstein: Americans too racist for socialism
The U.S. should move in the direction of socialism but the country's "white majority" opposes welfare since such programs largely would benefit minorities, especially blacks and Hispanics, argued President Obama's newly confirmed regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein.
The lazy man's excuse, requires no thought, just default to racism.

Crushing America, One Illegal at a Time
DHS strips Arizona sheriff of authority to patrol for illegal immigrants
Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will continue his controversial "crime suppression operations" despite a Department of Homeland Security decision to strip him of authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status, the East Valley Tribune reports.
"It's all politics," says Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County.
Tell me again why we have a Department of Homeland Security. Why do we need a Department of Homeland Security that refuses to do anything about ILLEGAL immigrants? To stop the one guy in the whole country who is trying to do something about them? Isn't that a rather large bureaucracy to stop one guy? Talk about wasteful spending.
Post in Which I Help Thomas Sowell
I enjoy reading Thomas Sowell's Random Thoughts. He's always got a few good observations to share. Like this:
After political crusades for "affordable housing" ended up ruining the housing market and much of the economy with it, many of the same politicians are now carrying on a crusade for "affordable health care." But what you can afford has absolutely nothing to do with the cost of producing anything. Refusing to pay those costs means that you are just not going to continue getting the same quantity and quality-- regardless of what any politician says or how well he says it.
See what I mean, that's exactly right.
He asked another question today in the commentary and I know the answer:
Whatever happened to Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel? Could she have met with foul play? Where is the FBI when we need them?
I don't know where the FBI is but Samantha Brown is in Tennessee. No foul play. Here's her Travel Channel page. Glad to be of help.

Not a Big Fan of Ants
Well, some I don't mind, but I hate the nasty ones. And ants that cause fires - I don't like them.
Ants blamed for fire that kills several cats
Carpenter ants built a large nest around an electrical outlet, Daytona Beach fire Lt. Fred Godawa said. The ants electrically grounded themselves and this morning they caught on fire, causing flames to shootout of the outlet and spread to nearby furniture, he said.
I Did NOT Know That!
Selling and eating horse meat is legal in many states. In Florida, selling horse meat is legal if it is "stamped, marked and described as horse meat for human consumption."
I was under the impression that horse meat was illegal in the United States.
It's so sad what is going on in the Miami area with people (if I can call them that) stealing and slaughtering other peoples horses. People who do that should be slaughtered themselves.
Read it here: South Florida sees rise in illegal horse meat market
Have We Stopped Caring?
Some pictures from the Indonesian Earthquake recovery
Every time there is a massive natural disaster somewhere in the world, America helps, and is usually at the forefront of the recovery effort. Even where we are not wanted, we try (Myanmar). And the news makes a special effort to tell you where you can donate to the efforts.
Recently there was a massive earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia and I have heard nothing about Americans sending help and supplies - as I usually do. Nothing about where to send donations. Maybe I missed it? Or are we just too preoccupied with ourselves now. The President does set the tone for the nation, after all.
Here is an example of what was done in the past: More Than $110-Million Raised for Disasters in Asia
A comment on that page is telling: "Hmmm! Maybe we should worry about the people in the US first!"
Here's a link to the Red Cross - even they don't have much on the homepage about it.
I know there are Americans are over there helping, regardless of what the rest of the country is preoccupied with. God bless them.
These are just my observations, I hope I'm wrong.
Oh, I almost forgot about the flooding in the Philippines
The United States has donated $100,000 and deployed a military helicopter and five rubber boats manned by about 20 American soldiers from the country's south, where they have been providing counterterrorism training. The United Nations Children's Fund and the World Food Program have also provided food and other aid.
Hmmm.

Interesting Observation
David Warren talks about the differences and similarities of Gorbachev and Obama in Lament for a nation
Yet they do have one major thing in common, and that is the belief that, regardless of what the ruler does, the polity he rules must necessarily continue. This is perhaps the most essential, if seldom acknowledged, insight of the post-modern "liberal" mind: that if you take the pillars away, the roof will continue to hover in the air.
Gorbachev seemed to assume, right up to the fall of the Berlin Wall and then beyond it, that his Communist Party would recover from any temporary setbacks, and that the long-term effects of his glasnost and perestroika could only be to make it bigger and stronger.
There is a corollary of this largely unspoken assumption: that no matter what you do to one part of a machine, the rest of the machine will continue to function normally.
A variant of this is the frequently expressed denial of the law of unintended consequences: the belief that, if the effect you intend is good, the actual effect must be similarly happy.
Very small children, the mad, and certain extinct primitive tribes, have shared in this belief system, but only the fully college-educated liberal has the vocabulary to make it sound plausible.
With an incredible rapidity, America's status as the world's pre-eminent superpower is now passing away. This is a function both of the nearly systematic abandonment of U.S. interests and allies overseas, with metastasizing debt and bureaucracy on the home front.
60th Anniversary of the Peoples Republic of China
The great failure goes on
Meanwhile, life in the PRC means having no freedom of religion or expression, and experiencing the full powers of the arbitrary police state, even if they are used more sparingly. China has enormous ecological problems, and the one-child policy -- the hallmark of the PRC's second thirty years --has wreaked havoc with its human ecology. State regulation of family size -- breeding licenses, forced sterilization, coerced abortions -- is a massive, systematic violation of human rights, even if human rights advocates prefer to avert their eyes. Only the wilfully blind can ignore the results: tens of millions of Chinese girls aborted or left to die, with the consequent social problem of tens of millions of Chinese men with no prospect for marriage; generations of Chinese for whom brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts do not exist; a society older than even the shrivelling populations of Europe; and a social welfare state that will soon be overwhelmed by the indigent sick and elderly.

Survival Signals
Sympathy for the Devil
Because many of us have been touched by evil at some point in our lives. And it changes you; it pierces your soul. Because you behold something so startling it leaves you breathless: that there are people, sometimes in your own family, who wish you harm.
Global Scam: Busted!
How the global warming industry is based on one MASSIVE lie
For the growing band of AGW "Sceptics" the following story is dynamite. And for those who do believe in Al Gore’s highly profitable myth about "Man-Made Global Warming", it will no doubt feel as comfortable as the rectally inserted suicide bomb that put paid to an Al Qaeda operative earlier this week.
Now read on.
Of course, that doesn't mean it's not true, does it? I mean, they know it's true so fudging the evidence to get other people to believe it is acceptable, right? Dan Rather and 60 Minutes did it.
The sooner we get this whole global climate change fiasco behind us the better for everyone. Except maybe Al Gore.

The Arrogant Generation
Love the Charles Rangel part:
"Who's gonna lead us out of poverty? Barack Obama! Who's gonna save the United States of America? Barack Obama! Who's gonna save the entire world? Barack Obama! And who do we love? Barack Obama!"
No. Barack Obama is not going to do any of those things. He can't.
I remember as a child reading the book of Revelation and wondering how anyone could be taken in by the "beast power," the kingdom or government that becomes the most powerful the world has ever seen. Well, I'm getting a lot of glimpses of that lately. I see that spirit at work.
Not only do I see the possibility, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to imagine it not happening. I don't see it turning around, I don't see people coming to their senses. People are becoming increasingly arrogant and hostile toward one another. There is no civilized discourse among rival philosophies.
Glenn Beck is right about what he is saying and if you stand for the truth you will be attacked. That is the way of this world.

Lex, Rex
A God Forgotten
What do you do when you cut loose from God? How do you live, what guides your decisions? How can you tell right from wrong?
A Model of Inefficiency
Post Office has thousands of workers paid for ... not working
If nothing reveals the inefficiency of government or government-subsidized operations, this should. Under the rules, the Post Office cannot shift employees to other facilities; they have to hire new workers in one place while workers sit idle in another. Small wonder that the USPS finds itself in a multibillion-dollar hole.
Oh, You Poor Thing
Michelle Obama: It's a 'sacrifice' to travel to Europe to pitch for the Olympics. But I'm doing it for the kids.
In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her "dear friend" and "chit-chat buddy" Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow's visit by President Obama, is a "sacrifice" on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. "As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,"
Imagine having to fly to Europe in a private 727 with your "dear friend" and "chit-chat buddy" Oprah Winfrey, with people waiting on you hand and foot, ready to serve your every whim. How horrible that she has to go through that!
Oh, wait. Maybe she meant the sacrifice was having to talk to Europeans?
I can see the "Save the Olympics" bumper stickers now
Olympics-2016 Games could be the last, says Tokyo governor
"Global warming is getting worse. We have to come up with measures without which Olympic Games could not last long.
"Scientists have said we have passed the point of no return," said Ishihara
Well, if we've passed the point of no return, it doesn't matter what we do. We don't have to commit economic Seppuku.
OK, now that that's settled ...
Why is it acceptable for America to change for the worse, but not the weather?
