The only thing that can be done is to be prepared to fight back. Don't live your life at the mercy of the most evil guy in the room. Peace through strength. I know a lot of people don't like to hear that but it is the reality on the ground. People like this love gun-free zones. Unarmed people are easy and safe targets. Criminals like unarmed people.

Osceola Theme Park Ticket Scheme Busted

The bust took place over four days, and 14 people were arrested for reselling theme park tickets to unsuspecting tourists. The tickets that were sold were multi-day tickets to attractions like Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, and Universal Studios. The suspects would buy tickets that still had a few days left on them and resell them to visitors for a "discounted price."

When tourists see they can sell their unused tickets for cash, many jump at the chance, said police.

Most of the tourists buying these tickets know what they are doing. I get asked all the time where these tickets can be bought and I warn them every time that it is illegal and they should buy the tickets at the park or on the official website of the park. THEY DON'T CARE. They buy them anyway. They come down here with the intention of buying cheaper tickets outside the park, illegal or not, and it's been going on for years. Sure, when they are caught they claim they had no idea, but I assure you in most cases that is not so. I have worked within earshot of some of these booths and I have heard the explanation of what to do and how. They know.

Life has many good things. The problem is that most of these good things can be gotten only by sacrificing other good things. We all recognize this in our daily lives. It is only in politics that this simple, common sense fact is routinely ignored.

In politics, there are not simply good things but some special Good Things -- with a capital G and capital T -- which are considered always better to have more of.

Many of the things advocated by environmental extremists, for example, are things that most of us might think of as good things. But, in politics, they become Good Things whose repercussions and costs are brushed aside as unworthy considerations.

Nobody wants to breathe dirty air or drink dirty water. But, if either becomes 98 percent pure, 99 percent pure or 99.9 percent pure, there is some point beyond which the costs skyrocket and the benefits become meager or non-existent.

...Baltimore mayoral candidate Otis Rolley has unveiled a new proposal to add a $1 bullet tax to each round sold within city limits. This would be part of Rolley's multi-pronged strategy to reduce crime in Baltimore...

So a box of ammo that now costs $15.00 would, under his plan, cost $65.00. So all of us law abiding shmucks get the bill while the criminals will just steal the ammo they want - same way criminals get guns. It's getting so it doesn't pay to be honest anymore. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

This shows that they kinda, sorta understand that taxing something creates less of it. They tax cigarettes cause they don't want people to smoke, they want to tax bullets so people won't shoot - the 'sin' tax, levied on products or services they want to discourage. But why does taxing productivity cause them to salivate? They want less productivity? They don't want people making money? Really? What they really want is for people to make money and give it all to them so they can continue their power trip.

"The 420 wind turbines now in use across Pennsylvania killed more than 10,000 bats last year — mostly in the late summer months, according to the state Game Commission. That's an average of 25 bats per turbine per year, and the Nature Conservancy predicts as many as 2,900 turbines will be set up across the state by 2030.

This is a bad time to be a bat.

It may seem like a good thing to those who fear the flying mammals, but the wind farm mortality rate is an acute example of how harnessing natural energy can lead to disruptions in the circle of life — and the cycle of business. This chain of events mixes biology and economics: Bat populations go down, bug populations go up and farmers are left with the bill for more pesticide and crops (which accounts for those pricey tomatoes in Kansas)."

Those and other confessions are contained in a new state report that reveals how far some Atlanta public schools went to raise test scores in the nation's largest-ever cheating scandal. Investigators concluded that nearly half the city's schools allowed the cheating to go unchecked for as long as a decade, beginning in 2001.

And yet, oddly enough, what's going on is a prayer service – oh, relax, it's not Anglican or anything improper like that; it's Muslim Friday prayers, and the Toronto District School Board says don't worry, it's just for convenience: They put the cafeteria at the local imams' disposal because otherwise the kids would have to troop off to the local mosque and then they’d be late for Lesbian History class or whatever subject is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

In his bizarre press conference on Wednesday, Obama made no fewer than six references to corporate jet owners. Just for the record, the tax break for corporate jets was part of the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009" – i.e., the stimulus. The Obama stimulus. The Obama-Pelosi-Reid stimulus. The Obama-Pelosi-Reid-Democratic Party stimulus that every single Republican House member and all but three Republican senators voted against. The Obama-Corporate Jet stimulus that some guy called Obama ostentatiously signed into law in Denver after jetting in to host an "economic forum."

Charles Krauthammer did the math. If you eliminate the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Corporate Jet Tax Break, you would save so much dough that, after 5,000 years, you would have clawed back enough money to cover one year of Obama's debt. Five thousand years is the year 7,011. Boy, our kids'll really be safe by then. I see some leftie at MSNBC has just been suspended for characterizing the president's performance Wednesday as that of a demotic synonym for the male reproductive organ. So I shall be more circumspect and say only that even being a hollow unprincipled demagogue requires a certain lightness of touch Obama can't seem to find.

Speaking of corporate jets, did the president fly commercial to Denver? Oh, but that's different! He's in "public service." A couple of weeks before he flew Air Force One to Denver, he flew Air Force One to Williamsburg, Virginia. From the White House (well, via Andrews Air Force Base). That's 150 miles, a 30-minute flight. He took a 747, a wide-bodied jet designed to carry 500 people to the other side of the planet, for a puddle-jump across the Potomac.

Oh, but it was for another "economic forum." This time with House Democrats – the ones who voted for the Obama Corporate Jet Tax Break. "Economic forums" are what we have instead of an economy these days.

Aside from the Sultan of Brunei and one or two similar potentates, no other head of state goes around like this. In a self-governing republic, it ought to be unbecoming. But in the Brokest Nation in History it's ridiculous. And the least the beneficiary of such decadence could do is not condescendingly lecture those who pay for their own transportation. America's debt is an existential crisis, and playing shell games with shriveled peas of demonizable irrelevancies only advertises your contempt for the citizenry.

This time around, the U.N has appointed North Korea, with its nuclear ambitions, to chair of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament. You read that correctly. A conference on disarmament is being chaired by a country bent on developing its own nuclear weapons arsenal. Given the U.N.'s history of dubious appointments, however, this may not come as a suprise.

Fearful of provoking further public resistance to naked airport body scanners, the TSA has been caught covering up a surge in cases of TSA workers developing cancer as a result of their close proximity to radiation-firing devices, perhaps the most shocking revelation to emerge from the latest FOIA documents obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

These machines haven't even been operating very long. They're all over cell phones causing cancer and it's very difficult to determine, scanners they cover up and the connection is apparently much more obvious. Big government means big corruption. Double the size of government and you quadruple the corruption - the true ratio is probably greater.

Some clever people today ask whether the United States has really been "exceptional." You couldn't be more exceptional in the 18th century than to create your fundamental document -- the Constitution of the United States -- by opening with the momentous words, "We the people..."

Those three words were a slap in the face to those who thought themselves entitled to rule, and who regarded the people as if they were simply human livestock, destined to be herded and shepherded by their betters. Indeed, to this very day, elites who think that way -- and that includes many among the intelligentsia, as well as political messiahs -- find the Constitution of the United States a real pain because it stands in the way of their imposing their will and their presumptions on the rest of us.

More than a hundred years ago, so-called "Progressives" began a campaign to undermine the Constitution's strict limitations on government, which stood in the way of self-anointed political crusaders imposing their grand schemes on all the rest of us. That effort to discredit the Constitution continues to this day, and the arguments haven't really changed much in a hundred years.

Congress imposed a back-door ban on horse slaughter in 2006 to try to improve humane conditions, but a new government report says it has backfired and the same horses are now being exported for slaughter in Canada and Mexico, and they likely are suffering more along the journey.

The Government Accountability Office said the policy has led to "unintended consequences" such as depressed prices for all horses and an increase in reports of animal neglect, abuse and abandonment

If I had a nickel for every government regulation that led to disastrous "unintended consequences," I'd be a very rich man and the government would take half.

The belief that the rights of the community outweigh the rights of the individual is the bedrock principle of communism. The belief that government has the inherent right to dictate the behavior of its citizens is another bedrock principle of communism. The belief that government should manage the economic affairs of its citizens is directly out of the Communist Manifesto. The more the Communist Manifesto is read and understood, the more clearly one sees the transformation that has been imposed upon a formerly free people.

The transformation began long before Barack Hussein Obama. He, unfortunately, seeks to drive the final nail into the coffin of freedom. Obama and the so-called progressives he leads are working diligently to expand government power and diminish the rights of the individual, to destroy the last vestige of a free market and to denigrate and discredit all who disagree with their communist philosophy.

The joke is that there is nothing in "Fitna" that is not shown being said by Muslims themselves - it's a film of Muslims inciting hate.

You’ll recognize those words as those coming from Moses' mouth to Pharaoh's ears. They were God's demand to free the Israelite slaves, and thus became a rallying cry for those of us who love freedom.

And yet the sentence quoted above is incomplete. "Let my people go" is a phrase closely identified with the Passover and freedom from the slavery of Egypt. For Christians, not only does it look to the freeing of the people of Israel from bondage, but also the freeing of all mankind from the bondage of sin through the sacrifice of the Passover Lamb without blemish (I Peter 1:19, I Corinthians 5:7).

But freedom from bondage is only part of the story. The rest of the story is found in the rest of Moses’ words...

If banks try to act like they are real estate companies and hold on to a huge inventory of foreclosed homes, they are likely to lose money big time, as those homes deteriorate and cannot compete with homes marketed by real estate companies with far more experience and expertise in this field.

But if teachers fail to educate children, they don't lose one dime, no matter how much those children and the country lose by their failure. If the schools waste precious time indoctrinating children, instead of educating them, that's the children's problem and the country's problem, but not the teachers' problem.

In fact, they use their failure as an excuse to funnel even more money to schools.

Guard Yourself

Read the Scripture: 1 John 5:18-21

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols (1 John 5:21)

He closes with this final warning. "Dear children, keep yourselves from idols." Do not go off to something else. Do not give your attention to your interests, your time, your energy, or your money so that those things become what you live for, what you get excited about, what enthuses you. That is your god. What is it with you? Is it Jesus Christ, or is it something else?

In our travels, my family and I were privileged to be in various parts of the ancient world, where we visited many temples dedicated to idols. Though these temples had fallen into ruins, in every place a certain god such as Apollo, Venus, Bacchus, or Zeus had been enthroned and worshiped there. It suddenly struck me, after returning home, that though these temples have been abandoned, the worship of the god has not ceased. We have changed the names, but the gods, the idols, are exactly the same.

There is the worship of Narcissus, the god who fell in love with himself. Is this not perhaps the supreme god of humanity: the worship of self, the exaltation of humans? The idea that we constantly hear set forth is that humans are so tremendous, so smart, so brilliant, so clever; they can do so many things. Yet we deny the continual evidence of our senses that the world is crumbling to pieces around us. Isn't it amazing how we worship humanity? The manifestations of it find expression in the worship of race or country. We have the worship of Bacchus, the god of pleasure, wine, women, and song; the worship of Venus, the goddess of love, enthroned in Hollywood and all that Hollywood stands for; Apollo, the god of physical beauty; Minerva, the goddess of science. Everywhere we have enthroned science.

John writes and says that these things will destroy you, they will rob you of what God has for you. "Little children, watch that you do not drift off into the worship that the world around you is constantly engaged in. Do not let these things become important in your life, for God has set you free that you might live as God intended people to live." No wonder His word comes "Dear children, keep yourselves from idols." What makes you enthusiastic? To what do you give your money? For what are you saving up now? What is it that you regard as supremely important? It is with this question that John closes this book.

Father, help me to identify the many gods of this age that appear to so attractive but really have nothing to offer me but death. Thank You for the truth that is in Christ and that in Him I have all that I could ever need or want.

Electric Cars: Cool Idea, Bad Reality

Doubling down on electric cars?

And where do we get the electricity to charge millions of vehicles? We're already having problems with the electric grid, a point that seems to come up a lot in political campaigns but not much in actual governance. Instead of deriving energy through gasoline through internal combustion, car owners will have to pay electric companies to provide the juice. Those providers will have to build new production plants to supply it. What sources will those plants use to generate electricity for the millions of new vehicles that will need a charge? Right now, the only resources that could supply that massive level of need would be coal, natural gas, and possibly nuclear power, none of which environmentalists want used for electricity now.

You can't force technology. It may be a good idea some day and if it is it will naturally develop in that direction and as it develops it will be in an environment where the support is developing along with it. That is not now. Burning the bridge before we've crossed it is not going to get us across faster.

No, not Disney World. Actually, the answer gives a clue as to who is actually in charge of the country that created this ranking, which came in 2nd. I guess I was completely wrong about this country in my other post, they are not sad at all, they are HAPPY - or else. Do you think Kim reads my blog?

I usually cook my hamburgers medium but I have to say the best burger I ever had was a thick one that didn't cook on the grill long enough and was rare inside. Juiciest, best tasting burger I ever had. Alas, the nanny-state is at it again, this time in North Carolina, protecting us from ourselves.

Meanwhile, the number of Americans on food stamps has risen 39% since Obama took office. Hmmm.

Power Over the People

Is this not the most pathetic country in the world? All the pretending and the extreme sadness behind it all. Cuba is like this to a lesser extant, China too. I remember USSR and what it was like for them, how some would risk their lives to escape, especially at the Berlin Wall. I remember reading those stories while it was still going on. They still risk their lives getting out of Cuba.

I really feel for the people living in North Korea now. I don't know but they seem as though they have accepted their fate. Perhaps it seems that way because there is so little chance of escape, or because the escape attempts are through China and they are never heard from again. Or perhaps because we just hear nothing at all from the real people in the real towns living real lives.

Even in the West our politicians put on the everything is under control mask while the country crumbles beneath. It's so sad that superficiality is the way of the world. There is no substance, a house of cards with no foundation. If we can just believe in nothing hard enough, just spend even more money we don't have, just fool the people a little longer, and whitewash everything in good intentions.

Maybe the people who do this don't intend it this way, they probably really want to better the lives of the people but they just don't know how. They learn all the theory in school, but when they get their turn at the wheel they can't do it. Everything they try makes it worse but they can't accept responsibility for it, they won't accept the blame, they can never admit that they don't know how so they have to keep faking it. They have to lie, they have to protect the lies, they have to shut up anyone who would dare call them out or question them. No one must know the depths of their inadequacy and they lash out with as much power as they have to protect that.

Sadly, it works the same way in religions. Just try to leave Islam, or even read a Jewish or Christian Bible if you are a Muslim. Bring a Bible into Saudi Arabia. The walls may not be physical but they are just as real. Some Jew and Christian synagogues and churches do the same, not as violently, but if you step out of their bounds of acceptable thinking - watch out - you will be ridiculed, black balled, cast out. Not quite in the same league as Islam but effective nonetheless.

The effect is to keep you from knowing the truth - that the leaders are wrong, that they don't really know what they are talking about. They only want you to believe what they tell you to believe because if you knew the truth you wouldn't listen to them anymore.

I don't no where I'm going with this and I'm out of time, this was totally on the fly. Be a spiritual free agent as we should all be free citizens. Seek God with all of your heart and all of your strength - earnestly - and you will find Him. He is not hiding, we are.

Got Tagged

I don't know how long I've had this snake, probably 18 years now. Wow, I didn't realize it has been that long, yeah, I got her in the very early nineties. She bit me once before when she was very young, it was not a big deal. She's bigger now. And she can be a bit ornery at times. I know that and I usually take it into account. I had a rat thawing Friday and forgot about it.

I was off work that night so I had been out with James most of the day and around 5pm I couldn't stay awake another minute. I woke up 2 or 3am and remembered the rat, so I went to feed it to her. I had the cage light on but the room light off so it was dark except in the cage. She was laying in the corner not moving a muscle, seemingly asleep. I opened the door and put the rat on the ground in front of her nose. She didn't move.

I noticed she needed some water so I started refilling her bowl - I always wait until she's eating before messing around in her cage, but it's not usually 3 in the morning. Boom! I felt the prick of the teeth like needles, she let go as I instinctively pulled my hand out but not before her front half was out of the cage. She got her head around some wood I had stacked in the corner and I grabbed her rear half to keep her from getting away. She was having none of it. The wood was flying everywhere, blood gushing from my arm, the cage light went flying but luckily remained lit. I got her head out so she turned to bite me some more - I was having none of that. I couldn't find the snake hook, I couldn't see much of anything beyond the two of us. I see blood-stained wood strewn everywhere, blood coming from my arm like water and a big snake that looks like it wants to kill me. I started laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation but got it together, grabbed her behind the head, put her back in the cage and shut the door. We looked at each other through the glass - she hissing with mouth open wanting to go another round. No thanks. I left her to her rat.

I washed my arm and wrapped it with a towel to stop the bleeding. Irma came out to the kitchen to get a drink, saw the towel and asked what happened. "I got bit by a snake." She says, "Really, was it big?" "As big as Bleak", I answered. "Where was it?" she asks. "In the garage." Now I'm thinking this conversation is as bizarre as what just happened. She's not the least bit freaked out or surprised that I got bit by a large snake at 3 in the morning. "It was Bleak," I told her. "I went out to feed her."

By this time it had stopped bleeding, so I put some antibiotic ointment on it. It didn't look too bad, but was very swollen. I took the pictures Saturday night and they don't look bad, it actually looks worse in person. It's the bruise that doesn't really show in the picture. I've never been bruised by a snake bite, she really hit hard.

The moral of the story is don't let your guard down. Just because everything looks calm does not mean that all hell cannot break loose in a split second.

5/30: I should have said what kind of snake it is. It's a Red Tailed Boa, commonly known as a Boa Constrictor. I don't know how long she is, I'd guess about 8 feet but heavy bodied and muscular.

Maybe It's Me?

I guess it doesn't matter anymore where you stop if the police pull you over. I always thought you were supposed to pull over to the right shoulder of the road or into a parking lot. Since I've been in Florida and more so the past few years, I noticed people stopping in left hand turn lanes, on the median or even in the right lane of a three lane road - even when there is a safe place to pull over within feet of where they stopped. And the police don't seem to mind. This picture shows a car stopped in the right lane and directly in front of a cross street. There is an open parking lot just in front of the car. Heck, they could have just made a right on the cross street and pulled over. The police just took care of business and let it go. Is this standard operating procedure across the country now?

Because he objected to an op-ed by Mitt Romney being placed on the paper's front page in March, and news of a presidential visit not getting the same treatment.

Indiana don't need no stinkin' constitution!

Overturning a common law dating back to the English Magna Carta of 1215, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Hoosiers have no right to resist unlawful police entry into their homes.

In a 3-2 decision, Justice Steven David writing for the court said if a police officer wants to enter a home for any reason or no reason at all, a homeowner cannot do anything to block the officer's entry.

Me thinks the police should christen the new decision at the homes of the 3 judges who ruled in favor of overturning the 4th Amendment. Or are they immune from the decision?

Unless things change, the man (or woman) elected in 2012 will be the last American president to preside over the world's leading economy. If things get really bad, he will find himself presiding over the early stages of American collapse. Not "decline" but "collapse." "Decline" is what happens when you're Britain in the 1940s, and you cede global dominance to a major ally that shares your language, legal system, cultural inheritance and broad geopolitical objectives. That deal isn't on offer this time round.

The current debate on the "debt ceiling" testifies to how thoroughly public discourse has flown the coop of reality. Sure, Congress can vote to raise the debt ceiling – just as you and your spouse can reach a bipartisan agreement on raising your own debt ceiling. Go on, try it: Hold a vote in your rec room, come up with a number, and then let MasterCard know what you've decided on.

In the real world, debt ceilings are determined by the lenders, not the borrowers. In March, Pimco (which manages the world's largest mutual fund) calculated that 70 percent of U.S. Treasury debt is being bought by the Federal Reserve.

So under the 2011 budget, every hour of every day, the United States government spends $188 million it doesn't have, $130 million of which is "borrowed" from itself. There's nobody else out there.

It is denial that turns people into sheep. Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive, resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf shows up.

Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: you didn't bring your gun, you didn't train. Your only defense was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by your fear, helplessness and horror at your moment of truth.

I've been the sheep most of my life but I've looked the wolf in the eyes enough times. And that changes a person.

I'm out for an very early morning walk with a woman friend. She does not shoot, though she is starting to show interest. We're walking down a long trail in a small city park, a large sprawling area with miles of trails, a lot of trees and a small river. A jogger passes us every 10 minutes or so, Barkley's intent on sniffing out a cheeseburger someone just had to have left behind on the trail. She's quiet and then the question comes out.

She looked at me and said "you're carrying, aren't you?".

I looked down at a light rain jacket over a T shirt, and couldn't see the form of a holster or anything so I asked, "how can you tell".

She said, "you carry yourself differently, there's a different look in your eyes. I've seen that look when you work but not when you socialize". She chuckled . . . "It's a little scary".

I grinned and said, "yes I am".

She thought about and replied. "It's daylight, we're in a park with other people, why?" It wasn't spoken with incrimination, simply curiosity.

So, I told her.

If you wanted to confirm the notion that elections are a waste of time, you could hardly do it more swiftly than the new Canadian Conservative majority government is with its omnibus crime bill. Clause Five criminalizes the "hyperlink" - that's to say, if you include a link to a site "where hate material is posted", you could go to jail for two years.

And people still live in Canada because...?

I'd venture to say that most people with a blog have linked to a site "where hate material is posted." It just depends on whose definition of hate you use. Canadians better go back through their years of links and clean them up. To be safe don't link to anyone, you could be one election away from a jail time.

Not that we in the United States are completely safe from this insanity. It's just a matter of time.

A May Day rally in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.

Thanks to our feckless president, most of the Middle East is rapidly degenerating into a terrorist fever-swamp.

The Muslim Brotherhood is emerging as a power broker in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Libya. Meanwhile, the "democracy" movement in Syria seems likely to end with President Bashar al-Assad gaining a tighter grip on power, after he's killed enough of his own people to remind them why he's their president.

All of these countries are becoming worse than they were before. (On the plus side, Obama is set to announce the SEALs have just found Joe Biden.)

But George Bush's legacy -- Iraq – will be standing there, all on its own, the one point of light in a sea of Islamic darkness. And the media will coo about how reassuring it is that we now have a "thoughtful" president in the White House, instead of a cowboy.

Obama says he won't be releasing the Osama bin Laden death photos so for all intents and purposes we are back to May 1st as far as our knowledge of bin Laden's death - he's either dead or he's alive and it doesn't effect our lives one bit either way. I won't be playing the Obama string everyone around game - I don't care. The Obama administration is destroying the United States of America and that's what we should be worried about.

Factories making sought-after Apple iPads and iPhones in China are forcing staff to sign pledges not to commit suicide, an investigation has revealed.

At least 14 workers at Foxconn factories in China have killed themselves in the last 16 months as a result of horrendous working conditions.

Many more are believed to have either survived attempts or been stopped before trying at the Apple supplier's plants in Chengdu or Shenzen.

They had to put netting outside the worker dormitories to prevent jumping. How sad. Go Apple!

The Obama administration has raised the art of lying to a whole new level such that it is impossible to know for sure whether something they say is true or not without independent verification. And they seem to enjoy seeing the reaction of those trying to figure out what the truth is. It's their game.

A Just Ending

But I'm uncomfortable with crowds gathering at the White House to cheer.

The only way I have a problem with the selling of unpasteurized milk is if it is without the knowledge of the customer. If someone wants to drink unpasteurized milk more power to them. It's not meth, it's milk.
