Rooting Out Imperialist Languages

Venezuela seeks to root out English

President Hugo Chavez's government is taking its battle against U.S. "imperialism" into Venezuelans' vocabulary, urging state phone company workers to eschew English-language business and tech terms that have crept into the local vernacular.

Good idea, best to keep to your original language, Spa... - wait a minute, Spanish is the language of "imperialist" Spain, you know, that country that sailed to Venezuela many years ago, took over the country - what was it called then? - and gave the people a new language. If you're going to be consistent you better root out Spanish, too.

Better go back to the language of the Carib, Arawak, and the Chibcha.
