I say drill here, drill now regardless of the effect on the price of gas. Drill because the supply of foreign oil will be cut off one of these days because of war or terrorist attack, or who knows what. It's not a matter of if, but when, and we need to be prepared to supply our own needs in that case or the results will be catastrophic.
There are no alternatives to oil at this time, nothing can replace oil, nothing else is ready. We need to work on that, for sure, but we have to work with what is true, not what we wish were true.
I wish I could hop in my hydrogen powered or electric car to get to work, but it's not there.
Here's an example of what could happen to foreign oil supplies: Oil Companies May 'Panic' on Tanker-Rate Outlook
Oil-tanker rental rates may rise after last week's 46 percent slump spurred owners to slow their vessels, reducing supply and increasing costs for oil producers and refineries who hire the vessels.
Owners are telling captains to sail more slowly, according to three shipbrokers. The last time that happened, in the final months of 2007, rental rates posted the fastest two-month gain in at least 16 years, increasing costs for oil producers seeking to ship supplies to refineries.
