L

Thanks to #!/usr/bin/girl for pointing the way to this company. Check out the monitors. Strange name though - L. It stands for Leibemann. I like the logo made of rock. I won't be buying one soon, however.

Photo Day

It's been a long time since I've taken any pictures. I used to take alot, I don't know what's wrong with me lately. Maybe I'm just too tired to be creative. My mother mentioned she wanted some new pictures so I went ahead and took some today of James, Joshua and their horse friends. I even took a picture of some ants on a tree the kids were fascinated with. If you want to see them here's the link. It's Ofoto and you have to sign in - sorrry - it's free. I don't feel like messing with setting up an album and ftping it.

It was raining almost all day today, a good day to sleep. Too bad I couldn't. We opened the windows because it's finally getting somewhat cool and it was very soothing when I did sleep after Irma got home. I didn't want to get up. It was just a nice easy, constant rain. We ususally get very heavy rain with thunder and lightning and that's not very conducive to sleep unless it's off in the distance.

I Wish These Weren't True

I cannot comprehend how anyone, not to mention an entire culture, could possibly believe God, or actually their idea of God, would have you stab your daughter 11 times then slit her throat and leave her to bleed to death just because she was seeing someone outside your religion. For your HONOR?

"A bent and broken kitchen knife still protruding from her neck bore testament to the savagery of the attack."

Do you get virgins in heaven for that too?

And this one; Eating your friend's head.

Notice both happened in England, where guns are outlawed so people won't kill each other.

Happy Birthday!

to my sister, Kathy. Hope you had a great day!
Slow Sunday

James and I were alone this morning so we went outside and he tried to get the horses to come to him and I mowed the lawn - out back at least. It was unbearably hot and James wanted me to stop and go in the house. That's rare. We learned the horses names because the owner had come by. One is Sting and the other is Toby. Only now there are 3 horses and we don't know the name of the third. It doesn't matter, they don't come whenever James calls them anyway.

I put a bunch more Cd's on eBay too. They sold well last time around.

Now it's raining, James is taking a nap with Irma, Joshua is in his room n- maybe I'll lay down too.

Temple Mount Revisited

Here is a more in-depth article on the recent collapse near the Islamic Museum. Of course the Arabs are blaming Israel.

"It looks terrible," said Eliat Mazar, an Israeli archaeologist and Temple Mount expert and a leader of the committee for preventing the destruction of antiquities at the site. "This collapse might cause a terrific series of collapses."

"Israeli archeologists believe the bulge and the new wall collapse are due to unauthorized Waqf construction at an underground area known as Solomon's Stables, located on the other side of the wall. Reports say Muslim authorities are constructing yet another mosque at the Jewish holy site."

"Newsweek has called the southern wall "The Armageddon wall," because the old rocks help support an enormous stone platform that holds the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, among Islam's most sacred shrines.

Should it collapse, some archeologists fear a doomsday effect – dead worshippers, perhaps in the thousands, riots throughout the Middle East and charges that Israel is responsible."

Here's a commentary on the collapse by Mark Armstrong.

My eBay

I've been doing pretty good selling on eBay. I like it. I'm getting a better handle on shipping costs too. I should have done this a long time ago. I've got alot of CD's to sell and the Elvis CD's sell really well.

James always goes to the post office with me and everyone there knows him now. He talks to everyone in line and asks them all kinds of questions but most people seem to enjoy it. He's not shy, that's for sure.

"Homes & Gardens was all but overcome by how swell it all was: "There is nothing pretentious about the Fuhrer's little estate. It is one that any merchant of Munich or Nuremberg might possess in these lovely hills." But What Did It Do?

Tonight I got a call from the Sheriff's office asking if I had a map showing the location of the phone booths on property.

Me: "No, we only have one and it's right here next to the lobby."

Caller: "Can you see it from the lobby?"

Me:"Well, no, not at night." (There's a tint on that window, during the day you can't see in but at night you can't see out.)

Caller: "OK, we're gonna send a patrol car around. Thank you."

They never did, as far as I know. I wish they had because now I won't find out why they were asking.

Diane Alden Talks Education

Just Kindly Nod

"America is becoming a nation of idle participants in the destruction of our own country and civilization."

Tech Support

I had to come back to work Monday at 10am for training on the new reservation system. I brought James because I have no one else to watch him. He had fun, meeting new people and exploring the hotel. We waited around until 11 and no trainer showed up. Then we discovered there was no one coming - it was supposed to be training over the phone. I was the lucky one who had to talk to them. The guy was completely unhelpful and was unable to answer my questions. He ended up having to transfer me to tech support to answer them. The last time I talked to tech support I called to get the password to get into the system and ended up teaching him that you could set up different passwords for each clerk - not a good sign. This time I spoke to a woman who was pretty smart but didn't know the system. She was just looking for answers the same way I was doing on my own and we ended up coming to the conclusion that the information I needed changed had to be done at headquarters and couldn't be done at the hotel. At least she could tell me how to get that done.

By this time James was wanting to go wandering around and exploring on his own - he was getting restless. It was time to go. Irma called and I let him talk to her for a while. I saw him opening the swinging door on the garbage and looking like he was gonna put the phone in there - he didn't. When I spoke to Irma she told me he was telling her he was gonna throw her in the garbage. I don't know why. We went home after a quick stop at the post office, changed his clothes, picked up Joshua from school, came home and took a much needed (by both of us) nap.

As The World Turns

"It's time we Americans came to terms with something: France is not just our annoying ally. It is not just our jealous rival. France is becoming our enemy.

If you add up how France behaved in the run-up to the Iraq war (making it impossible for the Security Council to put a real ultimatum to Saddam Hussein that might have avoided a war), and if you look at how France behaved during the war (when its foreign minister, Dominique de Villepin, refused to answer the question of whether he wanted Saddam or America to win in Iraq), and if you watch how France is behaving today (demanding some kind of loopy symbolic transfer of Iraqi sovereignty to some kind of hastily thrown together Iraqi provisional government, with the rest of Iraq's transition to democracy to be overseen more by a divided U.N. than by America), then there is only one conclusion one can draw: France wants America to fail in Iraq.

France wants America to sink in a quagmire there in the crazy hope that a weakened U.S. will pave the way for France to assume its "rightful" place as America's equal, if not superior, in shaping world affairs."

What Makes The Bush Haters So Mad?

Did It Rain?

Tuesday I finished the installation of my water softener and it worked great. That night I went to get in my car and the driveway was wet, like it had been raining, but only part of the driveway. Then I noticed it was coming from the garage. Great! I went in the garage and water was everywhere, it was coming from the water softener. I closed the valves to bypass the softener and went to work so I wouldn't be late, wondering what could possibly be wrong. When I got home I looked at it and it turned out to be a cracked connector at the inlet. I guess I tightened it a bit too much. I replaced the connector and it is working great now.

More Handyman Stuff

Monday, between everything else I had to do, I installed the water softener. I had a leak in a threaded fitting and had to take that section apart again and I have to stop at Home Depot on the way home to pick up a couple of more parts. Today it will be up and working. It really isn't hard to do but it's so hot in the garage and I have to watch James and make sure he keeps out of trouble. Alot of interuptions.

We got a new reservations computer at work and I was volunteered to set it up. No problem, it's done, but I don't know the codes to connect with central reservations. That will have to wait.

Some Downloads For Mom's New Computer

If you didn't do it already go to Windows Update and download all critical updates. Don't wait.

Now, download and install the free version of ZoneAlarm. The standard ZoneAlarm will be fine and it's free. Just click where it says download. After you download it, click on it and follow the directions. It should start automatically at startup and don't surf the web without it.

Then get Ad-Aware. Click where it says download in the last paragraph. After downloading, click on it to install. After you finish going on the web run ad-aware and follow the directions to remove what it says you have.

Another program I really like is Spybot Search and Destroy. It's similar to Ad-Aware but I think better. It is more complicated. I would still download it though, look at the program after you install it and call me if you have any questions.

I gave you Password Corral on you old computer so download it if you used it. (To save and organize all the passwords you collect on different websites) The download link is down toward the bottom. I don't know why you wouldn't use it.

One more thing, download DCOMbobulator and run it. It's very easy. Shut off DCOM. You only have to run it once to shut it off. Thanks to #!/usr/bin/geek for the heads up on this tool.

Don't forget to run the anti-virus regularly. Don't open attachments.

Enjoy your new computer!

Amazing New Ultra-sound Techniques

I'm Frustrated

Did you ever write a long post and have your browser crash before you saved it? It wasn't Bloggers fault (I don't think) but when I look in the browser history all the pages I visited are there except Blogger. What's that about?

Handy Man

Tuesday I installed a new laundry room door. The old one was a normal door that swung into the room and took up the whole room. The new one is a folding door and it opens out. Wow, the difference is amazing! There is room to actually move around in there and fold clothes. Now we need to decide whether to paint it or stain it.

I also installed new blinds in the living room. Finally got rid of the old mini-blinds. The new one is light oak and really makes a huge difference in the feel of the room. Now if only the kids will leave it alone and not break it.

And a new toilet seat for the main bathroom. Irma got one that has shells molded into it. It does look alot nicer.

eBay

I put up a couple of new auctions. I use Turbo Lister and on the second auction it wouldn't let me upload it because eBay couldn't recognize the links for the pictures. I checked and rechecked, tried this and that - no luck. Finally I just copied the main html and deleted the auction and started over. It worked. Thank you to whoever invented the copy/paste commands.

I'm happy with the sales so far on eBay. I have alot more to list but it's slow going. James likes to help too much and if he's not helping, if
I stay too long on the computer, he wants me to get off and play with him. Irma had me take pictures of some jewelry she wants to sell but she didn't give me the information I need to write a description.

I have some rare magazines I've been thinking of selling. Thinking because they are worth something to me and I don't want them to sell too cheap. The magazine is called Gmund (it's about Porsche automobiles) and it was published in the late 70's and early 80's by the same company that publishes Cavallino. They've been in storage all this time. Maybe I'll put a reserve on them. But should I sell them all together or seperately? Decisions, decisions.

AAA To The Rescue

Auto club goes on trial over slaying of motorist. It took them hours to get there after they were called.

I have had the same experience with them (the taking a long time, not the slaying) and they are just about worthless to me. Who wants to sit for hours waiting for a tow truck, especially in the Florida heat. And many times your broken down in the middle of nowhere.

AAA needs to learn from Domino's: 30 minutes or less.

Home Depot - Hardware Store?

I went to Home Depot Monday to get some parts to install a water softener. I found almost everything but I need a checkvalve and couldn't find one. I asked an employee and he told me they didn't have any, "I don't know why we don't carry them but they are available in any good hardware store." Oh. You mean, like, Lowe's.

I didn't make that up, he really said that.

James update

James went to the doctor today and like I said, He's no longer sick. I didn't go because I had to pick up Joshua from school but Irma said the doctor gave him a clean bill of health. Later, Irma told me James had a prescription to get. "A prescription for what?" I asked, "If she said he wasn't sick why does he need a prescription?" She said it was for congestion. We talked about it and we'll watch James, obviously, but I don't think we'll get the medicine. What's the point? Maybe she gets kickbacks.

Mo Hotta, Mo Smarta

I have a catalog from Mo Hotta Mo Betta and on the cover there is a cartoon of a guy holding a habenero pepper up to his mouth and next to it the same guy holding the pepper but his head is burnt to a crisp. James was looking at it and asked why his head was like that. I said one picture was before eating the pepper and the other picture was after eating the pepper. "Oh" he said, "but he didn't eat the pepper."

There Will Be No Retreat

David Horowitz has a great commentary out today: How To Look At The War On Terror

The enemy understands the war we are in. It knows that it is fighting for its life in Iraq. In sabotaging the peace in Iraq, its aim is to intimidate America and force our retreat. In his Memorial Day speech, the President addressed this threat: “Retreat in the face of terror would only invite further and bolder attacks. There will be no retreat.”

I shudder to think what will happen if President Bush is voted out of office next election. I believe it just may spell the end of the United States of America as we know it.

I know the liberals believe they are on a higher plane of understanding, that their minds are expanded and open to truth, knowledge, love, peace and oneness. They are the Vulcans to the conservative Klingons. The problem with their thinking is it's very easy to think yourself into corners and crevices that have no basis in reality, but they become your reality. The more people get together around an idea the more real it becomes to them. They are perfectly willing to walk right into (and take the country with them) a pride of lions and wonder at their beauty, completely denying the danger. After all, we'll mean them no harm. See, we're not armed.

Change the subject

James started to get a fever Friday afternoon. This kid rarely gets sick so it surprised me. I gave him extra Seasilver and some children's Tylenol. He was still playing with Joshua but they both were in his bed. He didn't get worse and was only slightly less active than normal all evening. Still, you could tell he was sick. We went to bed and around 11:30pm or so he woke up and was obviously feeling bad. He cried and moaned. He wanted more Seasilver (he likes it) so I gave him that and didn't want more medicine, but he got it anyway. We gave him children's Advil - it lasts for 8 hours. He fell asleep again and slept throught the night. The next morning he felt alot better but not quite normal. I gave him his vitamins again. Irma called the doctor and she said give him some Triaminic (for congestion). He was really looking much better but we got the medicine and gave him some. That was pretty much it. He's been completely normal since. Irma wants to take him to the doctor Monday (today) just to be sure, but he's fine.

It's a terrible feeling when your kid is sick.

eBay Fraud

I found this link at FlaBlog: Couple accused of $7,000 eBay fraud.

If you are buying something for $2200.00 on eBay you really need to use Escrow.com. Ask the seller first, if he says no or will only use a strange escrow company you never heard of, or tries to talk you into some other way of sending the money, stay away - do not bid on the auction. There is no reason an honest seller wouldn't allow the use of escrow for something so expensive if you paid for the service. Especially in the fraud-ridden computer section of eBay. eBay is really a safe way to buy but you do need to keep your eyes open and pay attention to warning signs - if it doesn't feel right pass on the auction. There will always be another.

If you go into, say, the Mac Powerbook section of eBay and just watch, get a feel for what's there, you'll begin to get a good handle on the fraudulent auctions. You will see some of the auctions disappear as eBay catches on to some of them and deletes them. You'll start to recognize the sellers that have been selling for a while and watch the feedback to see how his/ her buyers react, how long the transactions take. Do your homework before buying anything expensive on eBay. That's my two cents.

The Empty Space of Nothingness

Suit over Decalogue dismissed

"In a suit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, Thompson ruled last year the monument violates the establishment clause, which provides that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." There should not be a period at that point in the sentance. The period kinda leaves out a very important point.

What does this have to do with congress? Congress did not put the monument there, made no law providing for it, and the rest of that sentance is "... or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" I still think Allan Keyes is right about this. It doesn't seem like anyone really cares that the foundation upon which this great country was founded is being undermined and it's been going on since it's establishment - now it's near the point of collapse. The U.S. is being attacked from within and without, and we're rotting away spiritually so we don't have the combination of moral compass, strength and perseverance to withstand it.

How To Call The Police

I doubt this actually happened but ...

"George was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?' and George said no. Then the police said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said 'OK' hung up, counted 30, and phoned the police again. 'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now ' cause I just shot them all.'

Then he hung up. Within 5 minutes three police cars, an armed response unit, and an ambulance showed up at his house. Of course, the police caught the burglars redhanded. One of the policeman said to George: 'I thought you said you shot them!' George said, 'I thought you said there was nobody available!' "

Even Harder To Understand

I was reading a commentary in the Osceola News-Gazette by Carl Hiaasen (columnist for the Miami Herald) called He was only following God’s orders — so he says and came across this paragraph:

"Ironically, Bush is a long-time opponent of abortion. He’s also a supporter of capital punishment. Being simultaneously pro-life and pro-death isn’t easy to explain, but plenty of conservatives — including the governor’s older brother — take that position."

Why is that so difficult to understand? On the one hand you have an innocent, defenseless, precious child and on the other you have a murderer. I'd say that's quite a difference. What does he think? If you are pro-life you should believe no one should ever die and if you are pro-death you believe every one should die regardless of whether they are guilty or innocent?

The same God who said Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill (which is actually Thou shalt do no murder, Matthew 19:18. The Hebrew word is Ratsach), also said Exodus 21:12 He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.

Even if you leave God out of the subject entirely the difference between taking an innocent life and capital punishment for murder is abundantly clear.

Palestine

The truth is that Palestine is no more real than Never-Never Land. The first time the name was used was in 70 A.D. when the Romans committed genocide against the Jews, smashed the Temple and declared the land of Israel would be no more. From then on, the Romans promised, it would be known as Palestine. The name was derived from the Philistines, a Goliathian people conquered by the Jews centuries earlier. It was a way for the Romans to add insult to injury. They also tried to change the name of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina, but that had even less staying power.

Palestine has never existed -- before or since -- as an autonomous entity. It was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the Ottoman Empire and, briefly, by the British after World War I. The British agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their homeland.

There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc. Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of 1 percent of the landmass.

But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today. Greed. Pride. Envy. Covetousness. No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough.

From Myths of the Middle East

Arafat is among those Arab leaders making the incredible suggestion that there was never a Jewish Temple at the site.

"Until now, all the excavations that have been carried out have failed to prove the location of the Temple," he claims. "It is 30 years since they captured the city and they have not succeeded in giving even one proof as the location of the Temple."

Do you really think there can be compromise with people this delusional?

From More Myths of the Middle East

You see, it was Arafat's uncle who served as the grand mufti of Jerusalem in the 1920s and 1930s. It was his uncle who concluded, for the first time, that Mohammed had ascended into heaven from the site known as the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. And it was his uncle who, in an unholy alliance with Adolf Hitler, condemned the Jews and their designs on their eternal capital city.

Big, bad Israel?

I Wanna Pet the Horsey

Today when James and I were outside, the horses came over to the fence and stayed there when James approached them. Usually the walk away. They ate grass and leaves (?) from his hand and let him pet them. It was really nice, the only problem is now James wants to be out there all the time. Every 5 minutes he says he wants to go out and pet the horse.

What Part of 'Illegal' Don't You Understand?

DMV madness

Home loans for illegal aliens?!

When illegal aliens are no longer 'illegal'

I'm not gonna add anything more to that. The whole thing is ridiculus. The only people who could possibly want uncontrolled immigration to our country are those who want to see it's demise.
